SUMMARY

The discussion centers on calculating the time required to lift a 300 kg piano to a height of 10 meters using a crane that provides 400 watts of power. The formula used is time = work/power, where work is defined as mass multiplied by gravity and height. The calculation yields a time of 73.5 seconds, which is confirmed as correct by other participants in the discussion.

PREREQUISITES
  • Understanding of basic physics concepts such as work, power, and force.
  • Familiarity with the formula for calculating work: Work = mass × gravity × height.
  • Knowledge of the relationship between power, work, and time.
  • Basic understanding of units of measurement (watts, kilograms, meters).
NEXT STEPS
  • Study the principles of mechanical advantage in cranes and lifting systems.
  • Learn about the effects of friction and other forces on lifting operations.
  • Explore advanced power calculations in engineering applications.
  • Investigate safety protocols and load limits when using cranes for heavy lifting.
USEFUL FOR

Engineers, physics students, and professionals involved in logistics and heavy lifting operations will benefit from this discussion.

I have a 300 kg piano being lifted at a steady speed from the ground to a hieght of 10 meters and the crane that is doing the lifting is providing 400 watts of power. How much time does it take to get the piano to the top.
So far I have Power = work/Time
so time is Work/ power , so, work is equal to mass X gravity X hieght
so I have (300)(9.8)(10)/(400) = 73.5 sec...is this correct...any help would be nice. Thanks
