Quake has been ported to every platform and operating system there is, you're going to have to be more specific.
 
I downloaded it to play on my vista computer with DosBox..

I would recommend using GLQuake or WinQuake or something like that. Playing it in DOS Emulation mode is going to cause all sorts of problems on Vista.
 
This week, I saw a documentary done by the French called Les sacrifiés de l'IA, which was presented by a Canadian show Enquête. If you understand French I recommend it. Very eye-opening.
