SUMMARY

The discussion centers on the phenomenon of unusual white objects appearing in digital photographs, which are identified as internal reflections off lens elements in front of the focal plane. These reflections occur in all types of cameras, not limited to digital models. Their seemingly random movement is attributed to the sensitivity of their positioning relative to the camera's angle and movement, particularly when hand-held. This explanation clarifies that these artifacts are not due to dust on the lens.

PREREQUISITES
  • Understanding of camera optics and lens elements
  • Familiarity with focal plane concepts
  • Knowledge of digital photography techniques
  • Basic principles of light reflection
NEXT STEPS
  • Research the impact of lens coatings on internal reflections
  • Explore techniques for stabilizing hand-held photography
  • Learn about different types of camera lenses and their characteristics
  • Investigate the physics of light and reflection in photography
USEFUL FOR

Photographers, camera enthusiasts, and anyone interested in understanding optical phenomena in digital imaging.

Does anybody have a logical explanation to what those little white things on digital pictures are? I figured they can't be dust on the camera lens because they come out in a different place of the photo even if 2 photos are taken one after each other. Anybody, any ideas?

They are internal reflections off of lens elements in front of the focal plane. They occur in all cameras, not just digital ones. The reason they seem to move about randomly is because their positioning on the focal plane is extremely sensitive to the position and angle of the camera. If you're hand-holding your camera, it's likely that the camera moves enough from one frame to the next to move these little reflections.

Well, gee, if you watched enough daytime TV talkshows, you'd know they are ghosts or spirits! But if you want to be serious, you'll have to listen to chroot
