Discussion Overview

The discussion revolves around the hypothetical scenario of walking on a high cliff during a thunderstorm, specifically considering the risks associated with lightning strikes and the participants' attitudes towards nature and safety in such conditions.

Discussion Character

  • Exploratory, Conceptual clarification, Debate/contested

Main Points Raised

  • Some participants suggest that seeking lower ground may reduce the risk of being struck by lightning, as it is believed that lightning tends to strike higher elevations.

  • Another participant expresses distrust in nature, indicating a preference to hide until the storm passes, questioning the rationale of being on a cliff during such weather.

Areas of Agreement / Disagreement

Participants express differing views on whether to trust nature or to seek shelter during a thunderstorm, indicating a lack of consensus on the best course of action in this scenario.

Contextual Notes

Participants' responses reflect personal beliefs and attitudes towards risk and nature, but do not delve into specific scientific explanations regarding lightning behavior or safety measures.

I would trust nature. That is, I would look for low ground and trust that the lightning is most likely to strike the high ground.

I would go golfiing. Or fly a kite attached to a key.

If you hide behind a bush instead of continuing to walk, your odds of being struck by lighting are drastically reduced, right?

Always trust nature, no matter what. Nature would never let one of its creatures die.

I don't trust nature. I'd hide until it passed.

But then again, why would I be on a cliff during a thunderstorm? :bugeye:
