SUMMARY

Light-emitting objects, such as lightbulbs, indeed create photons, which are particles of light. The underlying principles governing this phenomenon are described by quantum electrodynamics (QED). The discussion emphasizes the complexity of the equations involved in QED, indicating that a deeper understanding requires further exploration of this advanced topic.

PREREQUISITES
  • Basic understanding of quantum electrodynamics (QED)
  • Familiarity with the concept of photons as particles of light
  • Knowledge of light-emitting objects and their properties
  • Mathematical skills to comprehend complex equations
NEXT STEPS
  • Research quantum electrodynamics (QED) and its fundamental equations
  • Explore the properties and behavior of photons in different mediums
  • Study the mechanisms of light emission in various light sources
  • Learn about the applications of QED in modern physics
USEFUL FOR

Students of physics, researchers in quantum mechanics, and anyone interested in the fundamental principles of light and photon creation.

If photons are particles of light, then do things that emit light (for example, lightbulbs) create photons? If they do, is there an equation for it?

It's just something that's really stumped me for a few years now.

Yes, they do create photons. The equations you are looking for are part of quantum electrodynamics, and are quite complicated.

Wow, that's pretty cool. I'll have to find out more about it!
