Discussion Overview

The discussion centers around the possibility of creating snow using chemicals other than water. Participants explore the theoretical and practical implications of this idea, considering the nature of snow and ice formation.

Discussion Character

  • Exploratory, Conceptual clarification, Debate/contested

Main Points Raised

  • One participant questions whether snow can be made from other chemicals, suggesting that snow is fundamentally ice crystals formed from water.
  • Another participant proposes the idea of using crystals from other chemicals, inquiring if they could mimic the structure of snowflakes.
  • A different participant expresses uncertainty about the formation of actual snowflakes from other elements but mentions that other gases can form ice, referencing clathrate hydrates as an example.

Areas of Agreement / Disagreement

Participants do not reach a consensus; there are competing views regarding the possibility of creating snow-like structures from non-water chemicals.

Contextual Notes

Some assumptions about the nature of snow and ice formation are not fully explored, and the discussion includes references to specific chemical processes that may require further clarification.

Theoretically I wouldn't think so, as snow is ice crystles made from water. So no water, no ice crystles, no snow.

What about crystals of other chemicals? Can they make similar structure to snowflakes?
