SUMMARY

The discussion focuses on ensuring text size consistency between MS Word and AutoCAD. Users noted that simply setting a text height of 10 in AutoCAD does not equate to a font size of 10 in Word due to differing unit measurements. A suggested method involves determining the height of a capital letter box in Word, measured in millimeters, to achieve accurate scaling. Additionally, users recommend adjusting the font size in AutoCAD based on the percentage reduction applied when scaling images to fit within Word documents.

PREREQUISITES
  • Understanding of MS Word font settings, specifically Times New Roman at size 10
  • Familiarity with AutoCAD text height settings and unit measurements
  • Knowledge of image scaling techniques and their effects on text size
  • Ability to measure dimensions in millimeters for accurate comparisons
NEXT STEPS
  • Research how to measure text box dimensions in MS Word
  • Learn about AutoCAD unit settings and their impact on text height
  • Explore image scaling methods and their non-linear effects on text
  • Investigate best practices for integrating graphics from AutoCAD into Word documents
USEFUL FOR

This discussion is beneficial for graphic designers, technical writers, and engineers who need to ensure visual consistency between documents created in MS Word and graphics produced in AutoCAD.

I'm writing a document in MS Word with font size 10 and Times New Roman. I'm also using AutoCAD to produce graphics to put in it. How can I make sure that text written in AutoCAD will be of equal size to that written in Word? Just choosing a text height of 10 in AutoCAD doesn't make it equal, since it all depends on what unit you're using for the drawing. The best would perhaps be to find out how big the "box" for a capital letter is in Word, measured in mm. But how? Anyone?

The obvious problem is that to fit the image on the document you will need to shrink it down which will chanage the text size. try figuring out how much smaller (percent wise) you are making the image to fit in the document and then select a font size that is about that much larger. now, of course, this is just a best guess. For all I know, image scaling is not linear, but I bet it will work out well.
