Entropy in Chemistry: Questions and Answers
I have two questions regaring my homework assignmnet 1) Is there a "spontaneous process" where the "entropy of the surrounding" decreases? If so, what kind of reactions (or process) falls into this category? I was trying to think of something but couldn't/ 2) and this was is just to...- ada0713

Volume of Perpendicular Slices for Region Bounded by y=e^x and x=1
finding volume by integration Homework Statement Consider the region bounded by y=e^x, the x-axis, the y-axis, and the line x = 1. A solid is created so that the given region is its base and cross-sections perpendicular to the x-axis are squares. What is the volume of a slice perpendicular...- ada0713

Acid-Base solutions and their effectiveness for deprotonation of NH4+
oh.. NH4+ is not a strong acid.. how do I approach this problem then? If K>1, net direction is right, then shouldn't the reactants be stonger acid and stronger base?- ada0713

Equilibrium of stearic acid dimerization when dissolved in hexane
Homework Statement Stearic acid, nature's most common fatty acid, dimerizes when dissolved in hexane: 2C17H35COOH --> (C17H35COOH)2 H°rxn = -172 kJ The equilibrium constant for this reaction at 28°C is 2900. Estimate the equilibrium constant at 38°C. 1) 4.7 *10^5 2) 1.9 * 10^3...- ada0713

How Do You Determine the Height in Volume Calculations by Integration?
Okay.. I think I got the second one (with right triangle slice) The "base" of the triangle should be sqrt((R^2-x^2)) (<- I got this from x^2+y^2=R^2) and the "height" of the trangle is going to be sqrt((R^2-x^2))*tanα (since tanα = height/base.. and you know "base" from above.. so you solve...- ada0713

How Do You Determine the Height in Volume Calculations by Integration?
http://img408.imageshack.us/my.php?image=picture20017hu6.jpg The attachement contains both problem and the attemp at a solution. Specifically, I am stuck on finding the equation for the height for each solid. (height "a" for both solids) Should I just set up a random letter to indicate the...- ada0713

Which Action Decreases CO2 at Equilibrium?
When you add more solid NaOH,, more CO2 molecules will react with NaOH; thus, decreasing the moles of CO2.. Am I right,,? But still, does solid really have anything to do with this? I don't think I understand the reason why we don't include solid in equilibrium constant- ada0713
