I have to take a foreign language
If you're in the US, I guess Spanish is probably the most useful. If you intend to work in Europe I'd say pick the biggest economies like German (which is spoken in germany, switzerland and Austria) or French. As a native English speaker maybe German would be easier for you. I don't know how...- Ajoo

How to Ace the TOEFL iBT: Tips and Resources for Brazilian Students"
I did the TOEFL iBT one year ago and found it to be quite easy. I only did the free sample test they give you for practice. 79 is also quite a low score I believe. 100 is very manageable if you can read, write and understand spoken English fine. I really don't know how one would go about...- Ajoo

Recommended Books for Self-Study in Signal Processing
I used Oppenheim's Discrete-Time Signal Processing in my signals processing course. It is a DSP classic but I studied mainly from my professor's lecture notes which were based on the book. It covers all the standard stuff you'd expect: sampling and reconstruction, DFT, Z-transform, FFT, filter...- Ajoo

Do past failures affect your cumulative grade? (EU/ECTS/Bologne plan concern)
I too would like to know this. I am Portuguese and in my list of grades on the college website there is no distinction of whether you took a resit or not. In my faculty it is pretty normal for people to take resits. Many times we even go to the first exam even without studying simply to try our...- Ajoo

Is Studying Robotics Worth It? Insights from a Biomedical Engineering Student
While robotics is not really my area and I'm not really sure what kind of work you're aiming for in that field nor am I familiar with the US education system. I've worked mostly in control for robotics and as far as that goes, you can get away with solid knowledge of ODEs, some analytical...- Ajoo

Induced electric field outside a solenoid
Thank you for replying. Yes, you're right. I just wrote those expressions out of my head as i recalled them and forgot that omega. I did get them right in the test though :P Don't understand this part well as I don't know the concept of faraday's field (i study in another language, maybe...- Ajoo

Induced electric field outside a solenoid
Hi there. On my electromagnetism test there was the following question: A long solenoid with radius R has N turns per unit length and carries a current I = I_0*cos(ωt) Find the electric field inside and outside the solenoid. I got the following solutions: \vec{E} = \frac{\mu}{2} N...- Ajoo

Find solution to this system of inequalities such that x+y is minimal
Yeah. It should be >= where it is >. I just typed this in a hurry. I had already tried drawing the 2 graphs in my calculator but how can i be shure the intersection is the smallest value for (x+y)? However, it's either that a point in equation (1) past the intersection point or a point in...- Ajoo

Find solution to this system of inequalities such that x+y is minimal
I propsed myself a problem but I'm having some trouble solving it. I've narrowed it down to this but i need some help on this final part: I have this 2 inequations that must be obeyed: (17/15)x + y > 50000 (1) (2/25)x + (3/10)y > 5000 (2)...- Ajoo

Undergrad Understanding Integration: Unpacking the Formula and Solving Problems
Hi. I read a few things about integration on my maths book and googled it up. I think i got the idea of it, but there's something that's still confusing me: I found this formula but i can't see how it can be true \int u^n du = \frac{u^{n+1}}{n+1} + C however, as far as i remember... -

Undergrad Solving a Probability Problem with 20 Chickens
Hi, i some time ago my physics teacher asked me this problem: There are 20 chickens coming out of an hen-coop. 15 are white, 5 are black. What's the probability of at least 2 black chickens come out consecutively. so basically i tried to calc P = 1 - (Probability of no black chicken come out...- Ajoo

High School Is This Geometry Problem Solvable Using Variables?
Well, there's something I'm not getting on this problem. basically i found the intersection between each 2 quarters of circle: A() = 2A0/4 - A[] = A0/2 - A [] then i found the common area between the 4 quarters: Ac = A0 - A[] Now, from what i think: Ac = 2*A() + 2*A However I'm...- Ajoo

Undergrad Learning special relativity in my physics class
Hi. I just started learning special relativity in my physics class. The prblem is i don't get this point. My teacher said that 2 inertial frames (A and B) where A moves with speed v relatively to B. He says that two flashes of light F1 and F2 occur when the 2 frames are at the same position...- Ajoo

Calculating Winning Probability in Horse Racing and Sock Selection
Sorry, my previous solution on the socks problem is wrong. I'm rly sry but i was really sleepy. Binomial distribution doesn't apply cause each act of choosing a sock is not indepandent from the others (Choosing 1 sock makes the probability of the next sock different). I also don't get the first...- Ajoo
