Relationship between k and orbital phase of solid state?
In a bandstructure diagram of E(k) vs. k : each band can be occupied by 2 electrons similar to a molecular orbital or no? Also, do the orbitals change as you change the k value or just the phase of the orbitals?- Alec Neeson

Relationship between k and orbital phase of solid state?
I understand that quantum objects have wave and particle properties. I know that k = 2π / lamda. I am simply not understanding the x-axis of a bandstructure plot of E(k) vs. k. I've read parts of a book by Roald Hoffman on this subject. In the book it is shown that there are infinite chain of...- Alec Neeson

Fermi Decay: ∆S=0 & ∆J=0 Class of Decay
I think that this is a relatively easy question (no equations) however I cannot seem to find anything on it. "For which specific class of decay is only the Fermi decay mode possible?" I know Fermi decay is ∆S=0 and therefore ∆J=0 type of decay- Alec Neeson

Failed first mathematical methods test
The test was over Fourier Series, Conservative fields and potentials, line and surface integrals, complex number manipulation, Spherical and cylindrical coordinates, Stoke's theorem, and Gradients, curls, divergence. I didn't evaluate the Fourier Series correctly and I have been going back over...- Alec Neeson

Failed first mathematical methods test
I got a 61% on my first mathematical methods for physics and engineering test. I thought I would at least get a solid C on that test :( If I were to receive a 100% on everything thing else ( 1 test , 1 final, 5 homeworks) I could end up with a 92.5% in the class. After that test I currently...- Alec Neeson

Fourier Series and orthogonality
Can someone explain the concept to me. Does it mean the the a's of n and b's of n are 90 degrees apart? I know the inner-product of the integral is 0 if the two are orthogonal.- Alec Neeson

Undergrad Number of Macro-States w/ 2 6-sided Dice: Formula
If there are 2 6-sided dice. What is the formula used to calculate the number of macro-states where a micro state is the sum of the two dice? I know there are 11 macro-states but I was curious if there was a formula for calculating this.- Alec Neeson
