High School Can Ice Be Solid Enough to Create a Workable Sword?
Liquid nitrogen boils at 77K, is pretty cheap and can be found relativly easily. Your local doctor may have some/know where to get some, as it is used for freezing off warts etc. You will need a container, and polystyrene works well for this. Try and avoid being in an unventalated area with it...- anilrapire

Graduate What is the role of extreme cold in achieving Bose-Einstein Condensation?
^ when an object in a superfluid exceeds the Vc (which, I think, is determined by the properties of the superfluid), the phonon generated by its movement has sufficient energy to excite the particles in the superfluid into various non-ground states. So, the superfluid state breaks down.- anilrapire

Undergrad Calculating Radius of a Spherical Turkey
after a lecture on the spherical turkey example in thermodynamics, I asked my lecturer how long I should cook my chicken for. He recommended 20 mins + 20 mins per pound, as per Nigella.- anilrapire

High School Is there a limit to how loud a sound can be?
good point, but that could well be less than the maximum "loudness" as determined by the physical properties of the medium in question, in air at least.- anilrapire

Graduate Using gravity to explain gravity
yeah baby! the whole point of physics is to explain esoteric things in terms of mundane things-the "gravity to explain gravity" is just to help you get a handle on things (the extra dimentions involved, I think).- anilrapire

Graduate Attn: chi meson re. explination of bose-Einstein condensation
I was under the impression that people thought b-i condensation might be explained by the process you allude to of a high proportion of the particles in the liquid all going into the same (lowest) state, but it was by no means certain. However this is what I was taught last summer term and I was...- anilrapire

a well-known type of hts tape. it means the actual switch is pretty large, in fact it looks rather like a bomb, with lots of wires poking out.- anilrapire

Graduate High temperature superconducting switches
Although low temperature superconducting (LTS) switches are pretty common nowadays (used in MRI magnets etc), HTS switches are far less so, in fact I'm wondering whether the one I built recently is the world's first? Does anyone know otherwise? Does anyone care? (I doubt it). Also, is this...- anilrapire
