Admissions Rejected from everywhere. What next?
So I had only applied to the following programs; MIT, Yale, Berkeley, Santa Barbara, UIUC, University of New Mexico, Boulder. I figured Boulder would be more of a match based on some admission statistics they had posted for the previous year (I seemed to be doing much better than the average...- Austin Daniel

Admissions Rejected from everywhere. What next?
I am in my final semester of my undergraduate career so like many others in my position I applied to a handful of graduate programs for the fall semester. I figured I had a really good chance at getting in due to the fact that I've got a 4.0, I scored in the top 10 percent on the PGRE, I have...- Austin Daniel

I Can the Planck equation be derived by considering phonons?
As far as I understand, phonons are just thermal vibrations of atoms in a lattice and blackbody radiation is just the radiation emittied due to thermal oscillations accelerating the atoms back and forth. Is there any example of a derivation of the Planck equation from considering black body...- Austin Daniel

Why isnt Cauchy's formula used for the perimeter of ellipse?
So the formula for an ellipse in polar coordinates is r(θ) = p/(1+εcos(θ)). By evaluating L = ∫r(θ) dθ on the complex plane on a circle of circumference ε on the centered at the origin I obtained the equation L = (2π)/√(1-ε^2). Why then does Wikipedia say that the formula for the perimeter is...- Austin Daniel

Does the school I graduate from matter?
OK so I currently attend The University of North Texas, which is by no means a prestigious school for physics. I am a physics major with 72 hours of coursework under my belt. I plan to attend graduate school and would like to get into a good school for something in the realm of theoretical...- Austin Daniel
