Chemical energy to electromagnetic energy transer

Does anyone know of reaction that can generate a a steady source of light? Preferably one easier to activate than burning of magnesium strips(which is too momentary anyway, I'm trying to make a chemical reaction that can eventually power a photoresistor/ light).

Homemade Solenoid - Is my battery strong enough?

i got the idea from this video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sR3xmof8rZY#t=360 (already timestamped) So youre saying that attaching magnets to it would eventually demagnetize the magnets; how fast would that happen usually?

Use a motor to turn a threaded rod

great, that was exactly what i needed. thanks!

Homemade Solenoid - Is my battery strong enough?

I'm probably going to change my design into this design: The metal slug will be resting at the bottom, where the 1" is marked. The indent that is .5" high will hold the magnet wire. So, in effect, I'm not looking to move it much. (around .5 inch) I'm actually going to attach magnets to...

Use a motor to turn a threaded rod

I'm still not sure I understand the post. I've gathered that I should be using couplings to link the motor shaft (4mm / 5/32") to the 1/4" threaded rod, but I can't find any of that size online. I feel like I'm missing something major, sorry for all this hassle.

Name of a switch that alternates between two states.

I'm wondering what the name of a switch that alternates between two states only when depressed. An example would be a flashlight, where if you click it once, it turns on, and if you click it off, it turns off (no need to hold down the button to get a continuous light).

Use a motor to turn a threaded rod

I just did a quick google search of "motorized lead screw" and I didnt find much. Could you provide a photo or a link with some more info? Also, I'm not turning any load, just a threaded rod. A normal stepper motor should be fine, right? I particular I am eyeing...

Use a motor to turn a threaded rod

Hi everyone, Is this something that I can use to link a motor to a threaded rod (so when the motor turns, the threaded rod turns as well)? also, about how much torque will i be needing to slowly rotate a 1 foot steel threaded rod? Thanks

Homemade Solenoid - Is my battery strong enough?

I've read elsewhere that the battery should generate around 2000mAh / 1000 x 20C = 40 amps max constant. Is this irrelevant, as the battery only supplies however much the wire draws? also, i was looking at this link and i want to clarify: If i copy their design / number of turns / wire, I...

Homemade Solenoid - Is my battery strong enough?

The coil 200ft of 30 gauge magnet wire. the outer diameter of the pipe is .8 inches, so the circumference is 2.512in. 200 x 12 is 2400 inches, which makes for 955 total turns. I'm not sure what you mean by a ferrous shaft? The slug is slightly smaller than the innerdiameter of the pipe, and it...

Homemade Solenoid - Is my battery strong enough?

Hi Everyone, I'm trying to make a homemade solenoid to lift a metal slug, and i have a 2000mah / 7.4 V / 20C lithium polymer battery. Is this battery going to be sufficient? Here is a photo of my current setup without the battery: side view top view Thanks in advance!

    Controlling Motors with Infrared Light

Hi everyone, I'm looking to create a circuit where an infrared detector is located above the edge of a small wooden disk with an infrared light also on its edge. I want to wire this up so that while the detector does not see the light, power is supplied to a motor that will turn the small...
