A Place in the Sun: Cornell Solar House Auction April 7
Looks like those solar panels will rip right off in a hurricane. Very small too.- BobK

How reliable are tree rings for climate modeling?
I don't see how tree rings can be reliable. Various factors go into a tree's growth pattern. Fertilization, sunlight, precipitation, temperature, and probably others I haven't considered. All of which can vary in different ways over the years. I frankly think they are fooling themselves...- BobK

DOES ANYONE KNOW WERE TO FIND a list of dos bacth file commands
Try windows help and search for ... Command-line reference A-Z It's more extensive than can be used with an actual DOS operating system, but I believe those DOS commands would be a subset of what help shows.- BobK

Fortran Is Fortran 90/95/2003 worth learning?
Looks to me like you answered your own question. If Matlab is better and Fortran is in limited use; unless you have some reason other than a line on your resume; wouldn't your time be better spent adding something to your resume by studying something you're actually interested in? Just...- BobK

How to do computation in Liberty Basic
totalinches = 39.5 onefoot = 12 feet = int(totalinches/onefoot) inches = totalinches - (feet*onefoot) I think this will do what you want. If your language uses the backslash character for integer division, (returns only the whole portion of a division) you could write the feet...- BobK

Is NetZero a Reliable and Affordable Option for Internet Access?
My brother has been using Juno.com as his dial-up connection for years. He's happy with it and spends a couple hours a day online usually getting about a 46K connection. I believe NetZero is/was associated with them.- BobK

From Pooh’s first Assessment Report on Climate Change
The alternative sources such as wind and solar have a couple severe drawbacks such as excessive land use and intermitent availability. Thus they will always be only a supplemental source of power. My personal opinion is that nuclear is the only viable option to oil, gas or coal fired plants...- BobK

What's the Deal with the Hockey Stick Graph?
I think M&M are performing a valuable service for the climate study community. Maybe people in the community will be a little more critical of colleague's claims. It's disappointing the community couldn't police itself. I hope they get on the ball and make sure all raw data, methods and code...- BobK

Dead Sea Dying: Threatening a Place of Global Significance
I wonder what phrase the writer would use for a 1 mile asteroid hitting the Earth if this should be considered a "disaster of global magnitude"- BobK

From Pooh’s first Assessment Report on Climate Change
I'm curious as to where in the article GS mentions where and how much they are investing. Seems to me, they wanted to talk about environmental issues, without taking an actual position. I've found that usually when at the beginning of a paragraph I find a phrase like "we acknowledge" or "we...- BobK
