Undergrad Meteor impact and axial tilt, relation to climate
I have a hypothetical question. If there was a relatively Earth-like planet out there that somehow experienced a rather catastrophic meteor impact large enough to alter its axial tilt close to 0 degrees, would such an event render the planet essentially a desert world? I.e. there are no more...- cbrons

How Do You Calculate Bicarbonate Levels in Respiratory Disorders?
Homework Statement Trying to create an equation to calculate the expected bicarbonate level given a respiratory acidosis or alkalosis (this is purely a math question, though). I am not sure if my equations are in the right format in terms of the order of operations and use of brackets, etc...- cbrons

What could you tell me about this planet?
What could you tell me about humans exploring this planet? Would it be feasible? Or would it be far too dangerous? What would be the biggest problem here? I am assuming the star class means it gives off a fairly high amount of radiation. Btw TY is "Earth years", "R" is x Earth radius, etc.- cbrons

Properties of a fictional super element/metal
I'm trying to make a Minovsky-physics type of material, so I'm just looking for ideas on what properties this material could have. Maybe something based on string theory? I.e. material created in another dimension?- cbrons

Properties of a fictional super element/metal
Trying to an invent a fictional element/metal. I need something that could enable FTL travel and anti-gravity cars. And also biological immortality. I'm thinking something similar to this: http://masseffect.wikia.com/wiki/Element_Zero I need some help coming up with techno-science-magical...- cbrons

High School Living in a Rotating Space Habitat: Perception and Challenges
Where would space ships dock in that sort of station? I am assuming at the center... The thing is, I am not sure how you would land though. Wouldn't you have to match the rotation with the station using some kind of side thrusters (do these even exist?) that would act perpendicular to the...- cbrons

High School Living in a Rotating Space Habitat: Perception and Challenges
Thank you... so again you are saying that they can have ponds and stuff? And the water just simply sits perfectly still like it would here on Earth? Or would that have some subtle effect? I am sorry, this is more for a fiction-writing exercise than anything else.- cbrons

High School Living in a Rotating Space Habitat: Perception and Challenges
This is the link - http://www.spacehabs.com/projects/#portfolio/20/ Forgive me for this rather stupid question, but say you lived on such a station. Um... what would happen when the part you were on rotated you upside down? I'm guessing that you wouldn't *technically* be upside down, but what...- cbrons

How Can Kalpana One Be Expanded to Accommodate 3 Million Inhabitants?
These questions are about a fictional space station in my novel. Just a little background, the station itself is modeled on an expanded version of the “Kalpana One” proposal (pdf here if interested) which was developed by the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics. The Kalpana One...- cbrons

Properties of a supernatural element?
Yes this is also good. But why must an atom made of muons be inherently unstable? I'm trying to minimize how much hand-waving I have here, but the fact is, some will probably be required. The specific structural features of the material are an undeveloped part of my plot. It's something that the...- cbrons
