Desperately need suggestions for my IB physics extended essay
Basically the extended essay is a piece of independent research done during the course of IB. I'm planning to do a physics EE, but now it's mid April and I still failed to find a simple yet specific topic to do reasearch on. My last few ideas were too complex or not specific enough. My...- Charonic

Experimental and Theoretical Physics
Well, excluding string theorists then, is there actually any large differences between a theorist and an experimentalist, since a physicist needs both theory and experiment anyway right?- Charonic

Experimental and Theoretical Physics
Then isn't theoretical physics just physics which hasn't been verified through the use of experimental methods? Oh, and I might be wrong about "Applied physics" as well, can anyone run over that for me?- Charonic

Experimental and Theoretical Physics
By experimental physics, I actually meant APPLIED physics, and by theoretical, I was thinking about quantum mechanics (gosh...), sorry :P. But, basically speaking, I want to be able to apply the things that I have discovered or learned into real life. So, let me rephrase my question. Is it...- Charonic

Can Engineering be considered as A Lot Funner than Physics ?
Yea it's true that some physicists might like their jobs writing papers up and stuff, but the original purpose of the physicist when he first took it for university is probably not to write papers right? Perhaps a more accurate question is, aren't the physicists who spend their lives publishing...- Charonic

Can Engineering be considered as A Lot Funner than Physics ?
Can Engineering be considered as "A Lot Funner than Physics"? I started my IB diploma at September this year, and Physics is simply my most favorite subject. I liked the abstract ideas of how and why things worked the way they do in the universe. However, from ZapperZ articles, it seems that...- Charonic

Graduate Storing an Image with a Single Photon: Quantum Mechanics at Work
That wouldn't make sense, since a gain medium can only amplify information, I don't think it can actually write info in... Anyway, even though I read about the double slit experiment, I don't fully understand it, so I'll leave this to the experts :)- Charonic
