    Time Response of Overdamped System

Dear PF Mentor, this is NOT homework assignment! This my own personal research intended to use a theoretical approach to develop a transfer function for an overdamped system with a low settling time. This could be used for creating faster robots. Step 1: Initializing the transfer function G(s)...

Understanding the Difference Between Energy and Power in Flywheel Calculations

I think I understand what you mean. And yes, the difference between energy and power IS confusing. Thank you so much for your time. Sincerely.

Understanding the Difference Between Energy and Power in Flywheel Calculations

So if it runs at a steady rate of 300 milliwats for one hour, then it delivers 300 milliwatts for one hour? Maybe that sounded silly. But if I've calculated that it outputs 300 milliwat second, and the output is always steady... it will deliver 300 milliwatt of power, after generating power for...

Understanding the Difference Between Energy and Power in Flywheel Calculations

It can't run for an hour? You're right, it can run for a few hours before the heat source is depleted. It's a thermodynamic generator. It has a constant speed. There is no such thing as watts per hour? You just said wh is the energy generated using a watt for an hour. Exacly, a watt for an hour...

    AnalogReference (EXTERNAL) undeclared?

Hi! I'm trying to read the voltage( from ARef I assume) by using analogRead. I've set analogReference to EXTERNAL, and I'm doing this in main. Yet, I'm told that EXERNAL is undeclared. What am I doing wrong? #include<avr/io.h> #include<teensy_pins.h> #include<timer0.h>...

Understanding the Difference Between Energy and Power in Flywheel Calculations

    I've got a flywheel spinning at 850RPM. It weighs 112,34g and has a radius of 38mm. I want to calculate the Kinetic energy (Ek) it has given in Wh (watt per hour).Angular speed: ω = n*2pi()/60 = 850*2pi()/60 = 89,011 rad/s Moment of inertia: I = 0,5*m*r2 = 0,5*0,11234Kg*0,038m^2 = 0,00008110948...

Ion Thrusters - How much do they cost?

I must ask. Since the minimum required thrust to escape Earth is 9,81N/Kg, and I wanted to accelerate 10m/s^2, I would need a thrust of 19,81N/Kg. If my spaceship weights 300Kg, I would need a thrust of (10+9,81)*300= 5943 Newton. After 4 minutes and 38 seconds I would be traveling at...

Algae producing oxygen in diving cylinder?

To make the world a little easier for you, here is a video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=blPo3X7JhwA&feature=my_favorites&list=FL6rsFVVCgxdG4FOonfjplRQ The papers from the space agnecy or what ever was saying that 6 liters was enough to keep a man alive, indefinetly.

Ion Thrusters - How much do they cost?

I have a reactor which produces 100KW and weights about 500Kg. The thrust I'm looking for here is being able to reach speeds of 1000Km/h. But the vessel however, will start its ion drive at about 100 miles above the Earth's surface. So I'm looking for something bellow 100K USD.

Ion Thrusters - How much do they cost?

Ion Thrusters which are used for space vessels, such as sending sattelites into space, how much do they cost?

Algae producing oxygen in diving cylinder?

"6 liters of algae water will produce 600 grams of "food" (540 grams is 2500 calories, an average daily food requirement), 600 liters of oxygen, and consume 720 liters of CO2" What's your oppinion?

    Best propellant for space shuttle?

The Swedish SMART-1 used a Hall effect thruster which used Xenon gas. Xenon costs 1200 USD per Kg. Why didn't they use Helium instead which costs 50 USD per Kg? New Horizons probe launch in 2006 used a Radioisotope Thermoelectric Generator which used Americium-241. Americium cost 1,5 million...

Xenon Gas Pricing and Safety Concerns

One company is selling 1000 liters of Xenon gas for 8000 USD. But other websites are stating that Xenon cost 120 USD per 100 grams. And Xenon weight 5 grams per liter at 101300 Kpa. I need to know how much 82Kg of Xenon would cost, or 50 liters at 150Kpa.

Why is Americum more expensive than Uranium?

The cost of Americum: Cost, pure: $1500 per g (1,5 million USD per Kg) Cost, bulk: per 100g The cost of Uranium: US $ 51,5/lb (at 25.07.2011) or 11,3 cents per gram (natural uranium in the form of the unrefined oxide U3O8). Why is Uranium so much cheaper?

Algae producing oxygen in diving cylinder?

Since algae can produce oxygen in closed containers, which you can inhale as a byproduct, when provided CO2 from your lungs; you could in theory take diving cylinders filled with algae with you, when diving, correct? I suppose this hasn't been done before, why not?
