Find the Best FET Simulation Software for Your MESFET Design Needs
SPICE is good for when you are using one of the models it supports. To generate a model based on the material parameters and device structure you need some other software. Silvaco is one company that provides them, there are others. Silvaco also provides short term rentals so that may help...- davidrit

Electronic Analog Computation for Sixth Form Students: A Project Guide
Philbrick published a book on the subject in the 60s. I haven't seen anything that comes close to it since in terms of coverage and clarity. Some references to performance specs are outdated of course, but the principles and circuits are explained well. Its been republished by Analog...- davidrit

Can a CCD Be Used in Reverse to Generate Surface Charge?
Modern CCDs are used for image sensors but they were originally developed for use as memories so yes in principle you can input charge to them and make an image. CCD sensors have a buffer at the output node that in most cases will prevent you from doing that but many CCDs probably have a method...- davidrit

Infrared cameras for detecting people inside cars
Mech Engineer, no need to shout. I didn't disagree with you I merely offered a 30 second breakdown of the infrared into a few commonly used spectra to help increase the OP's understanding of detecting infrared. Judging from the OP's response he understood that even if you didn't.- davidrit

Desigining A Microcontroller On Fpga using Verilog Hdl
You can also look under projects at opencores.org. There are numerous examples of verilog microprocessor cores that you can look at to see what is involved. That may help you pick what instruction set you want to be compatible with or what processor you want to emulate. You can probably...- davidrit

Infrared cameras for detecting people inside cars
Removing the IR cutoff filter from a camera will allow you to detect light out to abut 1 um wavelength. This is due to the bandgap of silicon so you can't do much to change it. For 1 um to 1.7 um or up to about 2.5 um InGaAs detector based cameras are commonly used. In this range water...- davidrit

Which Weller Soldering Station to Buy? WESD51, WD1001, or WD1002
I'd buy the one in stock! I like it because it is simple and has auto shutoff. Check that you can easily get the tips you may need for the iron you get. You may want different size tips or shapes depending on what type of components you are soldering. If you're doing really precise...- davidrit

Is Solder Cup or Crimp Better for a 37-Pin D-Sub Connector?
I also prefer solder cups, especially for making only 1 or 2 cables. To crimp reliably you have to make sure you have the right parts and follow the manufacturer's specifications which often require tooling which can cost several hundred dollars. With solder cups you just have the one...- davidrit

Can You Wire Bond Low Ductility Materials Successfully?
K&S has some information on studies they did for copper bonding. I don't think they cover the alloys you mention but the process considerations would be similar: http://www.kns.com/KNS07/Templates/showpage.asp?DBID=1&LNGID=1&TMID=111&FID=549&PID=976 You normally want a uniform...- davidrit

Find Cryogenic Components: 1 uF Capacitors & More
I don't know anything about the cooler yet. I'm jut going to do the electronics portion, 99% of which will be outside the cold environment. Someone else will handle the cooling/vacuum/mechanical design and the project won't really start for a month or so. I'm trying to get a head start...- davidrit

Find Cryogenic Components: 1 uF Capacitors & More
Ok, I guess I was being paranoid about outgassing. I had worked on a project at 80 K a while back where outgassing was a problem but now that I think about it the problem was the device was sealed and the outgassing had to be kept down so it could hold below a certain level (I don't remember)...- davidrit

Find Cryogenic Components: 1 uF Capacitors & More
Thanks! Definitely some good tips and sources I didn't come across in web searching. I don't have access to the Review of Scientific Instruments on-line right now but I'll look into subscription. It looks like a really good resource, I can't believe I haven't looked at it before, it...- davidrit

Find Cryogenic Components: 1 uF Capacitors & More
I'm looking for components specified for cryogenic temperatures. Capacitors on the order of 1 uF to start with but other components too. Ideally they will be rated to less than 80 K operation with low outgassing. Anyone suggestion on any companies that make or sell such low temperature parts?- davidrit
