How to estimate the future global population
The population in 2050 will likely be somewhere between 0 and 50 billion. IMHO if you want to be more precise with any certainty you'll simply have to wait until 2050.- denisv

I'm not sure if thinking of particles as points is very useful in quantum mechanics.- denisv

Graduate What do you think these Weak Measurement, Quantum Uncollapse Tests. Re-write QM?
If you can measure then undo the effects of a measurement, doesn't that imply that there is more state than given by the state vector => hidden variables?- denisv

Graduate String Theory: 6 extra dimensions
So the space-time in ST is just a 11 dimensional vector space with a Lorentzian metric? I don't know what you mean by local copies, unless you're referring to the tangent space?- denisv

Graduate String Theory: 6 extra dimensions
I don't think anyone knows how it's supposed to work out. Some suggest that the extra dimensions are small, others seem to suggest we're living on a surface (brane) in a 11 dimensional ambient (Lorentzian?) space. There's probably people who think it's a mix as well. If someone can clarify...- denisv

Undergrad Learn Lagrangian & Hamiltonian Mechanics without Calculus of Variations
It's not a book, but you might want to check out Susskind's lectures on classical mechanics. The video lectures are available on youtube: http://www.youtube.com/view_play_list?p=6F0AA82DFCD08EF2 -

High School Is the ground moving or are we moving?
I'm not convinced. You seem to be suggesting that the mass of the Earth is accelerating radially out, whereas in the picture diazona suggested the entire Earth is taken to accelerate towards you. Surely the two are not equivalent?- denisv

High School Is the ground moving or are we moving?
I think you're confused. Gravity is accelerating us inward, and molecular forces are keeping it from collapsing into a point.- denisv

Everything left from any great circle from N to S is East, and everything right is West. This would a consistent definition wouldn't it?- denisv

Yes. It's bizarre, quite frankly.
