Engineering What Major Should I Choose for a Career in Computer Hardware Engineering?

Right now I'm applying to schools, and trying to decide what path I'm going to take. I think it would be very exciting to help develop newer, better, faster computer components. What major(s) should I be looking at? And what sort of classes are involved in that path?

Do physics careers involve computers a lot?

I'm a huge nerd, and I spend ~90% of my free time doing something on my PC, whether it's playing video games, browsing/posting on forums, playing with video editing software, messing around with various programming languages, you name it. So, I kind of want to factor that into my career...

    Puzzled by aqueous solution terminology

Thanks. :) Another question that's been bugging me lately: is it possible to isolate certain ions, so that they are not part of any compound? Like, would it be possible to manufacture a container of pure chloride gas, as opposed to chlorine gas?

    Puzzled by aqueous solution terminology

I'm just beginning to learn general chemistry, and I'm reading my textbook's chapter on aqueous solutions. My question is, why do we term a solution of an ionic compound (like NaCl) like this: NaCl(aq) instead of: Na+(aq) + Cl-(aq) ? Technically, when the sodium chloride is...

Ratio of product to difference - terminology?

It's the form of an expression for the "room constant", a measurement in acoustics: S*A ---- S-A S is total surface area of a room, A is total absorption of a room in sabins. Nice one. Thanks.

Ratio of product to difference - terminology?

    Is there a specific mathematical term, which refers to this expression? A * B ------ A - B

    Parametric curve iteration

I haven't taken calculus yet, but I'd like to determine the closest parameter value for when a parametric curve crosses a line (for a program I'm writing). The curve is such that I need to use calculus in some way or another - it is unsolvable algebraically. Newton iteration will find a point...

Moment of inertia & area density

Wow! Thanks a lot for the help... luckily my bodies are all of uniform density (I'm not a math wizard by any means)... Just for future reference, what exactly are "integrals" and what is "integration"? I looked it up just now and the definitions I found were beyond my comprehension. :/

Moment of inertia & area density

Hey there Physics Forums! I kept getting links to you guys cropping up in Google searches, so when I got stuck with something I figured I'd register and ask here -- seems like a pretty knowledgeable. :) Anyhow, I'm trying to calculate the mass moment of inertia for a flat, triangle-shaped...
