Fiber Optics & Lasers: Light Usage

Thank you. I thought they used lasers, but couldn't find a source for that.

Fiber Optics & Lasers: Light Usage

Do fiberoptic cables use lasers, or regular light? (or can they use either depending on the situation)

Fortran Fortran - Cygwin, gfortran and emacs

I never heard of it before. I installed codeblocks, but am still stuck... It says I need to link it to gfortran.exe under the program tab, but I see no program tab nor do I have gfotran.exe. When I download gfortran I get an archive containing a file tree, not a .exe file.

Fortran Fortran - Cygwin, gfortran and emacs

Hello, I am in need of assistance, not with code, but with simply setting Fortran up in XP. I am under the impression that I need cygwin, gfortran/g95 and emacs. I installed Cygwin, and downloaded some file tree (gfortran-4.4-Cygwin-i686.tar). But I do not know where to get the 'emacs'...

Undergraduate Research Dilemma: To Stay or To Go?

Consider yourself lucky you have the opportunities and choices you have. I tried like hell to get undergrad research experience, or even just lab experience, every year of my undergrad, and could not get any until now at the beginning of my senior year. This only gives me 4 months to make as...

Doing two research projects as an undergrad - crazy?

Doing two research projects as an undergrad - crazy?

Hello all, I have been trying to get an undergrad research position for some time, and have now got two offers at once! They are disparate fields and I want to do them both! Reasons I want to do them both are - One is theoretical and one is experimental and I want to try both of those...

Doesn't QM allow for FTL travel?

Sure, it will have 'traveled' faster than light if you see it here than there in a short time. But if your going into the muddy details remember that relativity says you cannot 'communicate' faster than light. Specific conditions can be contrived where objects appear to be traveling faster...

Child molester avoids prison because he is short

If you are referring to racism, that is not a 'skin condition'. Nor is it a physical or mental capability.

Objects Traveling at 60% Light Speed: A Paradox?

Because they are undergoing time dilation. Time changes, and that "corrects" the speed.

Child molester avoids prison because he is short

I remember once when I was a teenage delinquent I got mentally evaluated by some court appointed shrink. She gave me an IQ like test. At the end she said I did very well, which means the court will sentence me more harshly. That was messed up... (of course she told me after so I couldn't...

Does Radiation from a Colder Body Affect a Hotter Body in a Vacuum?

Remember that the hot emits more than the cold. So in the end there is still a net transfer from hot to cold, not from cold to hot.
