Does Poverty Stem from Laziness or Systemic Issues?
It's really motivation, not laziness, that's important. For example, how much one values a certain item an determine how much work one is willing to put into action. For example, If I did a study stating that "Laziness is the unwillingness to do certain acts". However, did the person not do...- EvilKermit

Month of Summer left: What can I do to make myself more employable
So I have a month left until school starts, and I am entering my senior year of college. That means I need to find a job soon. So I have nothing to do for a month, so I figure I should try to find ways to make myself more employable. Perhaps learn a new skill that can be useful. Question is...- EvilKermit

A Mathematician's Lament: An essay on mathematics education
I read the essay, and although mathematics education has its flaws in the United States, the essay emphasizes education should be learning for learning sakes. Interesting it points out how many of the subjects taught in secondary education is not used by the majority of the public. It then...- EvilKermit

Undergrad Questions about the learning curve
Here's the description of it: http://www.intropsych.com/ch07_cognition/learning_curve.html It's under the section of motor skills. Perhaps the learning curve applies mostly to procedural memory?- EvilKermit

High School Complete list of physics equations?
Yes, I remember the formula database. You can actually start editing and adding formulas to the list now. I'm just curious how much bandwidth the website has. The site has a potential to become 'popular' and contain a huge list of formulas- EvilKermit

High School Is water a particle or a wave?
Water can act as a medium for transmitting waves (for example throwing a rock in the water produces waves), but it isn't a wave itself. In fact all matter can act as a medium for transmitting waves(sound can travel through air and even solids and liquids).- EvilKermit

On the issue of kids not pursuing engineering/science/math these days
If anyone has a problem with any of my statements below, I'll look for resources to back it up. But I really don't feel like taking the effort to find the resources to information I learned several years back, forgot where I heard it from, and don't feel like taking the effort to find it's...- EvilKermit

Graduate Enthelpy and isothermal, where is my logic wrong
Alright so dU = TdS - pdV dH = TdS + VdP Set dU and dH to 0. Then -pdV = Vdp This correct? Also, if there is no change in enthalpy for a valve, does that mean that valves also work as an isothermal process for an ideal gas?- EvilKermit

Graduate Enthelpy and isothermal, where is my logic wrong
Assume ideal gas and isothermal : \Delta H = \int_{T_{i}}^{T_{f}}\! C_{p} dT = 0 (no change in temperature, no change in enthalpy) \Delta H = \Delta U + W, U = 0 There is no change in internal energy but there is change in work done. How do these two contradicting statements work.- EvilKermit

Optimization - Volume of a Box
Yes. All of your logic for the calculus problem was right, except for the fact that one side does not equal 2m and the other does not equal 1 m. You have to use algebra to figure you the length and width of the rectangular box. width = w length = l l = 2w 800 = 2w^2 400 = w^2 w = 20 l = 40 So...- EvilKermit

Area Between Y=x^3 & Its Tangent at x=1
Yea, I just realized my mistake above that x = 1, -2. There is no -1. The work is right above, just the answer was wrong at the end :)- EvilKermit

Undergrad Questions about the learning curve
In case you don't know what I'm talking about or haven't seen it, here's the link: Does the learning curve imply that different people have different limits in learning a skill. For example let's say there's two people: person A and person B. If person A has a learning curve that is...- EvilKermit

Undergrad Should force impact moving objects less than ones at rest?
v = a*t + vo If the force is applied for only a short time, then the momentum change is based on that above. . Actually momentum can be thought of the integral of force in change in time, although the term impulse is used instead of momentum. If you read the wikipedia article on...- EvilKermit

Graduate Thermodynamic cycle and entropy
Alright, I'm confused about why thermodynamic cycles can never have 100% efficiency. There reversible processes right? And a reversible process has zero change in entropy, so then why can't they achieve 100% efficiency. I thought entropy was the measure of energy that cannot be used. How would...- EvilKermit

Area Between Y=x^3 & Its Tangent at x=1
There's an easy way to solve the equation without having to do algebra. Assuming you have a graphing calculator you can just graph the two out and solve for the intersections. However if you do not or need to use algebra, you can also use Synthetic division (a variation of long division of...- EvilKermit
