How Does U-Substitution Prove the Equality of Two Logarithmic Integrals?
Confused, but tried it this way: Use u-substitution to show that (for y a positive number and x>0) \int_{x}^{xy} \frac{1}{t} dt = \int_{1}^{y} \frac{1}{t} dt so, u=t and du=dt if x=1 t=xy u=y(1)=y t=x u=1 or u=1/t and du/ln [t] = dt if x=1 t=xy u=1/y t=x y=1 Thanks for...- fstam2

Law of Cosines and Related Rates
Here is the question: Two people start from the same point. One walks east at 3 mi/h and the other walks northeast at 2 mi/h. How fast is the distance between the people changing after 15 minutes? I have: dx/dt= 3 mi/h, dy/dt= 2 mi/h, dz/dt= ? x= 3*.25= .75, y= 2*.25= .50 The instructor...- fstam2

Limit Evaluation: Does $\lim_{x\rightarrow 1} \frac{x^3-1}{x^2-1}$ Exist?
Here is the question, Evaluate this limit: \lim_{x\rightarrow 1} \frac{x^3-1}{x^2-1} since there is no common factor, this limit does not exist, correct? Maybe I am missing a basic algebra rule for the numerator to find a common factor. Thank you.- fstam2

What's your area and level of expertise?
Hello everyone, I love this site. It has been a lifesaver when completely confused. I am finishing my last year towards a BS in Wildlife Biology. I am very interested in population viability analysis, predator-prey relationships, conservation biology, and all things dealing with management of...- fstam2

How Do You Estimate the Slope of a Tangent to y=2^x at (0,1)?
Hey there, I need a little push in the right direction. Here is the question: The slope of the tangent line to the graph of the exponential function y=2^x at the point (0,1) is lim x approaches 0 (2^x-1)/x. Estimate the slope to three decimal places. Where I am getting confused is which...- fstam2

Integration by substitution help
I am going crazy on this problem: \int sec(v+(\pi/2)) tan(v+\pi/2)) dv if I substitute u= tan(v+\pi/2)) dv , can I use the product rule to find du= sec(v+(\pi/2)) dv . Thanks, Todd- fstam2

What is the acceleration of a block in simple harmonic oscillation at t=3.0s?
Thanks for your help. I only needed to change my calc. to radians to work out the problem. I never had the manual for the calc., and HP only has the Spanish version to download. Todd- fstam2

Do All Males Across Species Have Nipples?
There has been a case where in a species of bat, the male can lactate to feed it's young. Now I feel that is very interesting. Todd- fstam2

What is the acceleration of a block in simple harmonic oscillation at t=3.0s?
Simple Harmonic Oscillation Hello, I am new here and wish I had found this forum earlier in the semester. Here is the situation: A block (mass m=0.75 kg) rests on a horizontal surface (frictionless), attached to a horizontal spring (k=235 N/m). At time t=0, the block is located at the...- fstam2
