News Reason for conflicts in the world?
Patriotism is obedience to a governmental authority. Nationalism is placing the goals of your genetic group above your own interests. If you care to look up the meaning of the word "nation", you will see that a nation is genetic, not geopolitical. (Quick distinction written for the benefit of...- G037H3

Learn about nationalism. A healthy nation is a collective organism which seeks to conquer other nations and take their resources.- G037H3

Do Animals Understand Themselves and Others?
To actually lie requires consciousness. Animals are honest in that their natures are apparent. Humans have natures as well, but we can make an effort to choose certain facets to display. Look into 'social engineering'.- G037H3

Undergrad Can you define a set by what it excludes?
I'll probably read that book sometime in the next year, after I learn a lot more formal logic. I already know about the universal set issues (in fact, the book I'm using tries to use the label of a 'universal set' U that contains all possible answers to a problem, when really they mean the...- G037H3

Lingusitics How Did Language Evolve from Gestures to Complex Communication?
language probably originated in gesturing, as a means to communicate during hunting and such. Neanderthals were likely just as bright, if not brighter, than humans of 30K+ years ago. I state this based on brain size, which has a relatively strong correspondence with intelligence when primates...- G037H3

Graduate Fermi estimate of the week: Riemann hypothesis
I know pretty much nothing about it, but I like Fermi problems. I estimate 600K hours between 1859-1900, 1.7M hours between 1901-1950, and 2.8M hours between 1950-present, making 5.1M hours It needs another few years until I solve it (SARCASM, I PROBABLY WON'T SOLVE IT), so roughly 5.3M hours...- G037H3

Not invited for a job interview, because I'm female
Or, just go with people who actually want you, instead of fighting those who don't want you. A fight would be rational if you had no other option, but obviously you have options.- G037H3

Undergrad Can you define a set by what it excludes?
A class is a set of sets, so {3} for instance is a set, not a class. So what do you mean? >_>- G037H3

Undergrad Can you define a set by what it excludes?
I've discovered that my prior confusion was based on assuming that class and set refer to the same concept. My statements on 'depth' evoke classes.- G037H3
