Graduate Why is the Braid Group Infinite?
Hi, can anyone explain me why (mathematically) the braid group is infinte? I guess it's infinite because you can do every braid you want and even if you braid two particles interchanging them twice in a clock (or counterclock) wise manner, (so you bring them back at the original positions), the...- gioialorusso

Graduate 3-fold degeneracy: what is it?
Hi everybody, I apologize for my trivial question, I'm reading a paper by Freedman and Kitaev and, when describing anyons and quantum Hall Effect with v=1/3, they say that "the ground state of electron liquid on the torus is 3-fold degenerate". What is the meaning? It means that there are 3...- gioialorusso

Graduate Why photons are free from decoherence?
you have been very clear and your explanation is reasonable, thank you. are there physics motivation to this behave? like, i don't know, their quantized energy, their bosonic properties..? I read also that photons interact very little with each other directly, so is very difficult to realize...- gioialorusso

Graduate Why photons are free from decoherence?
Hi everybody, which are the physical laws that make photons free from decoherence? I only read about the fact that photons have no charge, but why this implies no decoherence? Thanks you all, gioia- gioialorusso

Graduate Decoherence Time Scale for Different Qubit Realizations
yeah, i know it, but i have really to give some numbers for each particle, and I don't know where to find them... Hope someone has some estimation about the question. thanks for now.- gioialorusso

Graduate Decoherence Time Scale for Different Qubit Realizations
Hi everybody, I've searched all the internet but I can't find the answer to my question. Which are times of decoherence for different physical realization of a qubit? Like, if I use photons, or spin electron, or nuclei, or ion trap, to encode a qubit, which are times of decoherence for each...- gioialorusso
