Millikan Oil Drop Experiment: Solving Homework Equations

Homework Statement In a Millikan experiment the distance of rise or fall of a droplet is .60 cm and the average time of fall (ie field off) is 21.0 s. With the field turned on, the observed successive rise times are 46.0, 15.5, 28.1, 12.9, 45.3 and 20.0 s a) Prove that charge is quantized...

Creation of an Electron-Positron Pair by a Photon

Homework Statement Show that the creation of an electron-positron pair (or any particle-antiparticle pair, for that matter) by a single photon is not possible in isolation, ie, that additional mass (or radiation) must be present. (Hint: Consider the reaction at threshold, then apply...

    Photoelectric effect, retarding potential

    Wow, that helps a lot! Oh okay, having A be a measure of length helps a lot...I was an econ/poli sci major so missed a lot of this stuff undergrad = ) 2500A = 2.5 * 10^-7m = 250 nm So W = (1240 eV nm / 250 nm) - .92 eV = 4.04 eV which is the work function. Thanks!

    Photoelectric effect, retarding potential

[SOLVED] Photoelectric effect, retarding potential Homework Statement If the photocurrent of a photocell is cut off by a retarding potential of 0.92 volts for monochromatic radiation of 2500 A (A with the little circle above it), what is the work function of the material. Homework...
