Can You Help Me Find a Socially Relevant Chemistry Topic for My Homework?
Hi, this sounds excellent. I've done some searching. Found lots of stories about it, but can't seem to find the PDF. EPA website seems like a maze! If it is not too much, could you give me a link? Cheers- Hydroxide

Can You Help Me Find a Socially Relevant Chemistry Topic for My Homework?
Homework Statement Hi, I just needed help finding a social relevance chemistry topic to write about 1000 words on. It needs to: -have lots of gritty chemistry -be socially relevant today (environmental and economic impacts) -have two sides to the argument I'm struggling to...- Hydroxide

Show that {u+v,v-w,w-u} is a basis of R^3 if {u,v,w} is
How would I show that they are Linearly independent. But part (ii) is : Suppose {u,v,w,x} is a basis for R4. Show that {u+v,v+w,w+x,x+u} is NOT a basis for R4 So I can't really do it by inspection. Thanks guys- Hydroxide

Show that {u+v,v-w,w-u} is a basis of R^3 if {u,v,w} is
Homework Statement Suppose {u,v,w} is a basis for (R3). Show that {u+v,v-w,w-u} is also a basis for (R3).The Attempt at a Solution By definition, u,v and w are linearly independent and they span (R3). I really don't know where to go from here though. Thanks- Hydroxide

A matrix satisfies A^2 - 4A + 5I = 0, then n is even.
ATA is n x n We haven't covered ranks yet I know that ATA can reduced so that it has one row of zero's hence det=0. But I don't know how to show it in general.- Hydroxide

A matrix satisfies A^2 - 4A + 5I = 0, then n is even.
Homework Statement 1) Let A be an n x n matrix with A^2 -4A +5I = 0. Show that n must be even. 2) Let A be an m x n matrix where m<n. Show that det(AT x A) = 0 The Attempt at a Solution 1) (A-2I)^2 +I=0 Not sure what to do after this though Thanks in advance- Hydroxide
