Forces on a rolling body with sliding bodies on it.
Why haven't I thought of that?! Thank you very much. Just to be clear that I understand it perfectly. If the trolley would be a stationary object, Newton's 3rd law would still hold and those red K forces would still apply, we just wouldn't need them to calculate anything so it's pointless to...- Icelove

Forces on a rolling body with sliding bodies on it.
Homework Statement I'm attaching a picture for the problem. Homework Equations F - N - K(that's my problem) = Ma K = m2a2 N = m1a (the acceleration is the same, since the rolling body pushes the m1 body forward) m1g - K = m1a1 (this is the acceleration in the y direction) a2 = a + a1...- Icelove

What is the Length of a Rope When Two Pipes are Tied Together?
Homework Statement The problem is pretty long but it is easy except one part where I need to calculate the length of a rope where 2 pipes are tied together tightly. We can reduce this to 2 dimensions so I drew a rough sketch of it. I didn't quite succeed with the the perfect drawing but you...- Icelove

Trigonometric Equation: Solve for x on Real Numbers Set | Homework Statement
Why? Let's say we rearrange the original equation to: cos^2(x) + 2 sin(x) = 7/4 // We multiplied by cosx(x) // Then cos^2(x) becomes 1-2sin^2(x)... That multiplied by 4 will be 4-8sin^2(x). I don't think where I got that wrong.- Icelove

Trigonometric Equation: Solve for x on Real Numbers Set | Homework Statement
Homework Statement cos(x)+2tg(x) = 7/(4*cosx(x)) Solve for x on the real numbers set. Homework Equations tg(x) = sin(x)/cos(x) , cos^2(x) = 1-2*sin^2(x) , The determinant is D = b^2 - 4ac , Also cos(x) ,tg(x), sin(x) | -1 < x < 1 The Attempt at a Solution For final arrangement I...- Icelove

Prove square root of 3 is irrational
Now I got the aaaaaah!(not yawning, or pain or others things) moment. I love you. :) ps: Although you made a tiny mistake since _square root_ of 4 is the question, so I guess just evaluate and 2 = 2/1.- Icelove

Prove square root of 3 is irrational
Hehe! I just wanted to open almost a same kind of topic. I don't really get proving by contradiction. What if I say, prove that square root of 4 is an irrational number. If my answer comes out as true, it is a rational number(contradiction assumption) then it is not an irrational. But by using...- Icelove

Really lucrative fields but is biophysics such?
Hey, I'm currently taking a _nap_ for a year and starting uni next year. I've decided to go towards physics and if I go further, biophysics would be the one. which I would pursue. I know that biochemistry and other things related to biology are really lucrative fields but is biophysics such...- Icelove

Which is larger: 2^500 or 5^200?
Homework Statement Which is bigger 2^500 or 5^200 Homework Equations - The Attempt at a Solution Well I got to 2^2^250 -> 4^250 vs 5^200... by the looking at it 4^250 is bigger but I can't just say it looks bigger... There are lots of these that I can't get on a common base, so if...- Icelove

Solving Inequality: (1+tg(x))*cos^2(x) > 1
Homework Statement (1 + tg(x)) * cos^2(x) > 1, solve the inequality Homework Equations tg(x) = sin(x)/cos(x) cos(x) * sin(x) = 1/2 sin(2x) The Attempt at a Solution I got my final value of: 1-sin^2(x) + 1/2 sin(2x) > 1 but because of the 2 inside the sin I'm kinda lost so I...- Icelove

Is H2O3 Safe for Consumption and Can It Be Made at Home?
I'm kinda ignorant towards chemistry, and what I've found leaves me with confusion, so I'm asking you guys the following questions: - Is H2O3 good for the human body? I've read some stuff, but the contradictions were suspicious. - If it's good, is it possible to create @ home? If it is, then... -

Russian Math Education: High School to University
Hey!
