What Are Emission and Absorption in Physics?

sorry i should have specified, yes emission and absorption spectra. not stated clearly in my book and I am spose to learn this! i just can't find a good definition on the internet

What Are Emission and Absorption in Physics?

emission and absorption?? confused! hiii, I am just wondering if anybody can give me a very simple definition of each of the two terms, and what the main difference is. Is emission when a wave enters a denser medium (from air to water)? and absorption when a wave enters a medium of lower...

    What Is a Matter Wave?

Could anybody give me a good definition of what a matter wave is? I am studying electromagnetic waves for my final exam, and unsure of the definition! I looked it up on the net a few times but it wasn't direct at all. Thankyou!:)

    Will evolution eradicate homosexuality?

i think this one is really up to opinion? no disrespect intended, but i just don't see how it can be generalized like that

    Will evolution eradicate homosexuality?

how is homosexuality a genetic trait though? sorry i saw this post and it just interested lol. lots of people know they are gay their whole lives, and others don't "turn" gay until they are 50. how does anybody prove that its down to biology and not just a state of mind? also..:P, i wouldn't...

    Balancing Equations: Oxygen in Compounds

shes wasnt very direct. so diatomic atoms are only covalently bonded when they exist naturally, before they enter into chemical reactions? this was the one thing that wasnt clear to me in chem class

    Balancing Equations: Oxygen in Compounds

but what about H20, isn't it always written as 2H20? or just H20?

    Balancing Equations: Oxygen in Compounds

hi there,:) I am just wondering, when balancing equations, because oxygen is a diatomic molecule, when it is in a compound, can it exist in threes of fives? for example, Fe2O3, or does it have to be 2Fe203. Or is it just when it is a single molecule of oxygen(and not in a compound) that it must...

How does the ocean affect daily temperatures?

that inland is more extreme weather I am guessing lol. i just need to justify why that is

How does the ocean affect daily temperatures?

i wouldn't have a clue:( does the answer have something to do with thermal equilibrium, or is it just about wind currents ?

How does the ocean affect daily temperatures?

not really, this sounds more like a geology question lol, we're studying basic thermal physics, i thought this question was more about thermal equilibrium

How does the ocean affect daily temperatures?

Just a random practise question I've been given. Is it because the closer you are to the coast, the cooler it is, because you are closer to a large amount of cooler substance? (only theory I've come up with:P) please reply! thankyou :D

Energy required to heat different materials?

Hello:) I am doing thermal physics at the moment, and am up to the part on specific heat capacity. I know that the equation Q=mc\DeltaT refers to the amount of energy required to raise the temperature by 1 degree celcius, but I am just a bit confused about how the energy is calculated. For...
