Undergrad Can you put out a fuse (fire) with a laser?
I was wondering you if you could use a laser to put out a fuse or to stop combustion? Could you use some form of laser/laser cooling to put out an explosion mid-explosion? -
Undergrad Infrared Photovoltaics: Powering Ham Radios & Cooling Earth?
Is there any chance that it could be more efficient because it would be absorbing infrared at night as well?- J3J33J333

High School Storing light and using it to propel an object
You're right, I was basically wondering if anyone knew about materials that have seriously low photon attenuation with good internal reflection. The photon rocket does help a good chunk with what I'm trying to figure out -
Undergrad Infrared Photovoltaics: Powering Ham Radios & Cooling Earth?
I think there are some thermophotovoltaics in the works that reach 40% efficiency. Also seen some people use materials to combine photons into a new wavelength so maybe that'd be a path to convert the IR to near IR, too.- J3J33J333

High School Storing light and using it to propel an object
Is it possible to store large quantities of light for extended periods of time? If so would it make any sense to use it to propel a spaceship because it doesn't weigh anything? I read that one of the biggest issues with getting to space is the weight of the fuel. -
Undergrad Infrared Photovoltaics: Powering Ham Radios & Cooling Earth?
Can you use infrared solar panels to power a ham radio and turn infrared into radio waves to get the energy past the green house gases? Because infrared gets reflected by greenhouse gases and warms the Earth while radio waves don't. Would this help cool the Earth?- J3J33J333

Choosing Physics or Electrical Engineering
I want to try to work on storing light as light. That paper is just one of the things i was trying to understand. I know it's hard because the light travels quickly and rapidly loses energy to heat. I've been looking at papers related to light trapping, but it's hard to understand them without...- J3J33J333

Choosing Physics or Electrical Engineering
Hello, I'm trying to decide between physics and electrical engineering. I like building electrical stuff, and I like solving physics problems, but my main goal is to try to build power systems that integrate things like what can be found in this paper https://arxiv.org/abs/1401.0520. I would...- J3J33J333
