Kinetic energy stored in the flyweel

I figured it out! I was using the wrong equation for Inertia...it should be: I = 1/2mr^2

Kinetic energy stored in the flyweel

Homework Statement A car is designed to get its energy from a ro- tating flywheel with a radius of 2.19 m and a mass of 679 kg. Before a trip, the fly- wheel is attached to an electric motor, which brings the flywheel’s rotational speed up to 7310 rev/min. Find the kinetic energy...

Torque generated by the motor of ferris wheel?

Homework Statement An electric motor can accelerate a Ferris wheel of moment of inertia 11300 kg · m2 from rest to 9.6 rev/min in 14.6 s. When the mo- tor is turned off, friction causes the wheel to slow down from 9.6 rev/min to 8.37 rev/min in 7.23 s. Determine the torque generated by the mo-...

    Spring with friction (nonconservative force)?

I figured it out! Thank you so much! 1/2mvi2= 1/2kd2 + Ffrd 0 = 1/2kd2 + Ffrd - 1/2mvi2 solve with quadratic ... (I was getting stumped on that sign for the frictional force... I think that's what you were hinting at and I just wasn't putting 2 and 2 together!)

    Spring with friction (nonconservative force)?

    KE (when compressed) = 1/2mvf2 + 1/2kd2 - Ffrd \theta = 180 Right track??

    Spring with friction (nonconservative force)?

Homework Statement A 5 kg mass slides to the right on a surface having a coefficient of friction 0.48. The mass has a speed of 7 m/s when contact is made with a spring that has a spring constant 138 N/m. The mass comes to rest after the spring has been compressed a distance d. The mass is then...
