Being Forced Into Math That Is Too Difficult

Calculus 1 won't be difficult, and I think pre-calculus is actually harder, although Calculus 2 uses a lot more of your pre-calculus knowledge. It's a piece of cake compared to the beast known as Organic Chemistry.

Schools What university has the best physicse education in the world?

MIT is rigorous, but it doesn't hold a candle to Caltech. Caltech is the only school that has a truly rigorous math and physics curriculum for undergraduate studies.

The field of math being more competitive than the field of physics?

Notice how few people in modern day get mentioned. And yet we have to keep in mind that the world population is larger than ever, and education's penetration only increases over time. It's possible in the early 1900s that the greatest minds didn't even get educated, but today that's far less...

    Math Student: Semester Load Advice

I am a math student at Queens College and so far I have taken the freshman calculus sequence up to multivariate calculus, calc based probability, discrete math, linear algebra I, and ordinary differential equations. Right now I am registered for the following classes for the Fall '11...

Has anyone here been to Harvard?

I had a friend that went to one of the top 10 high schools in the nation and had a 97 average with an SAT score of 2360, 5s in all his AP exams, and ridiculous amounts of extracurriculars and summer programs, and yet he still got rejected by Harvard so I guess it was a "bad roll of the die" for him.

ODE's: Rate of Change for Drug Dissipation in Human Body

By separation of variables I get y = Cekt where C = ec and then y(0) = y0 = Ce0 so y = y0ekt. Would this be shifting the coefficient on ekt? So in this case we would have y(T) = y0ekT therefore we use y = (y0ekT)ekt. Is this right?

ODE's: Rate of Change for Drug Dissipation in Human Body

Well can someone at least tell me if I'm on the right track? Would I use logistic decay to model this situation?

ODE's: Rate of Change for Drug Dissipation in Human Body

Homework Statement Suppose that the human body dissipates a drug at a rate proportional to the amount y of drug present in the bloodstream at time t. At time t = 0 a first injection of Y0 grams is made into a body that was drug free prior to t = 0. a) Amount of drug at the end of T hours...

Schools Can average intelligence thrive in college?

I think of it like I would a step function... The probability of achieving goals goes rises as iq increases up until around 120 where the probability of achieving goals remains the same for iq increasing to infinity.

Seeing Michio Kaku today. Any questions you'd like me to ask?

Seriously PF, unless you suffer from severe autism or asperger syndrome, I see no reason why you should react to what Kaku is doing in this manner. Simply put, Kaku is doing a great job of popularizing physics(and mathematics) and those that he inspires to pursue these subjects at the technical...

I just took my Calculus II final and I have a question about this

Because it's a non-elementary integral and thus they should rub their eyes and take a second look at the question? It's well known result that ex2 and e-x2 cannot be evaluated analytically. This is a matter of paying attention to what you're doing rather than plugging and chugging(even if it's a...

Calc 3, Linear Algebra, Diff e q, physics 2 together?

I took Multivariate Calculus, Linear Algebra I, Discrete Math I, Algorithmic Solving II(CS course), and English 2 in the same semester. My Linear Algebra course was a bit proofy so I do wish I had more time to handle all the course material, but I wasn't very stressed out or losing sleep or...

Is Taking 9 Classes in One Semester Realistic?

Personally, I would only suggest taking the courses that are required. Do you realize what Algebra I and Real Analysis are? Don't take those courses until you've completed multivariate calculus and Linear Algebra I(good intro to abstract algebra). Also, the probability and statistics course I'm...
