Engineering How hard it is to become a lecturer in civil engineering?
So I'm planning to become a lecturer in civil engineering while obtaining my MS degree in Structural Engineering. Is there anyone here already took or taking the same path I'm planning to? How hard it is to do both? Thanks.- median27

Soap film analogy and sand heap analogy
Guys, do you know any comprehensive website or reference that explains everything about soap film analogy and sand heap analogy? Including their concepts, procedure on how to perform them and some animations. It will be more useful if the discussion also deals with the reinforced concrete...- median27

Analyzing a Multi-storey multi-bay frame subjected to lateral load
What is the best/easiest method I can use to get the deflections of a 5-storey, 3-bay frame subjected to lateral loads only? I've used the Elemental stiffness matrix for two-dimensional frame analysis (giving me a 60 x 60 matrix) but I'm getting the wrong deflection values. I think my procedure...- median27

How to get the equation of the plotted curve in Excel?
How can I get the equation of the plotted curve (see attachment) without using the trend line? I've already fitted the random red points using the log-Pearson Type III Distribution (and the result is the blue curve) so I don't need to fit them anymore using any trend lines available in excel...- median27

How to fit distribution models for a frequency analysis?
The plotted data are the "observed" data for the annual maximum rainfall - daily basis. I need to get the "predicted" rainfall depths using the said distributions above and perform the fitting test. The fittest distribution will be the appropriate distribution to model the rainfall frequency of...- median27

How to fit distribution models for a frequency analysis?
I have a rainfall (mm) vs. year plot of a catch basin (see Excel file below) and I would like to get it's frequency curve. But before that, I need to fit certain distribution models (i.e. log-Pearson Type III and Gumbel Distributions) to my plot to be able to know the fittest model that I can...- median27

What is the kPa (or psf) of metal furring as a ceiling dead load?
I'm working on my analysis of roof truss assignment and got stuck on the computation of dead loads having no value for metal furring load. I only have the value for wood furring which is 0.12 kPa. I've been searching in the internet but still I'm not able to find it. Thanks in advance.- median27
