Undergrad Making equations with six six-sided dice
Suppose I am playing a game where I roll some dice, and must use only combinations of elementary operations (addition, subtraction, multiplication, or division) to make an equation using each number rolled exactly once. For example, if I roll four six-sided dice, and get this: 2, 3, 3, 4 A...- Mingy Jongo

Undergrad Determining the number of elements in the relative complement of a set
Hello, I have been very obsessed with a board game called Hex lately. I am trying to calculate the number of completed states (all positions filled in) on a 3x3 board where a certain player wins, given that some positions are already filled. I have attached a diagram illustrating what I am...- Mingy Jongo

What is the limit as (x,y) approaches (0,0) for the function x^2/(x+y)?
I figured it out a while ago. If y=-x, the limit as x->0 is infinity, not zero.- Mingy Jongo

What is the limit as (x,y) approaches (0,0) for the function x^2/(x+y)?
Homework Statement Find the limit as (x,y) approaches (0,0): Homework Equations x^2/(x+y) The Attempt at a Solution I have tried replacing y with 0, mx, x^2, etc. (and likewise with x), and all give me a limit of zero. So I tried to think of ways I could use the definition of a limit...- Mingy Jongo

Graduate How are probabilistic equations of physics usually formulated?
Are they derived from accepted laws and then tested, or are experiments carried out first and then a function is searched for that matches the results (or possibly both, or neither)? For example, how would an equation that gives the probability of electron locations be thought of? My "gut...- Mingy Jongo
