Minimum angle required for resolution
Well, 1.22 times the wavelength (1.5m) divided by D (295m) should equal θmin in radians, no? That is how I'm interpreting it, at least.- msk172

Slits per cm on diffraction grating
I understand that, but without knowing the length of the grating, how could one possible ascertain slits / cm?- msk172

Minimum angle required for resolution
Heh. Figured as much. I'll keep looking at it, and I'm sure it will come to me eventually. Thanks.- msk172

Slits per cm on diffraction grating
Homework Statement Light of 650 nm can be seen in three orders in a particular grating. About how many slits per cm does this grating have? Homework Equations Yikes. The Attempt at a Solution Either this question is ridiculously hard resulting in me not even having a clue...- msk172

How Is the Angular Width of a Central Diffraction Maximum Calculated?
Homework Statement A beam of yellow laser light (580 nm) passes through a circular aperture of diameter 4 mm. What is the angular width of the central diffraction maximum formed on a screen? (Define the angular width as the full angle from one minimum of the central diffraction maximum to...- msk172

How many bright fringes are seen in the reflected light
Plus, you reference fringe width, but the question asks for number of fringes seen, not what their width is. Perhaps these two are connected, but if they are I am not seeing it...- msk172

How many bright fringes are seen in the reflected light
I am trying like heck to follow the explanation you've provided, but have not gotten anywhere. I see what you mean about substituting the 2t equation in for t, but don't know where to go from there. Perhaps you could simply re-word in a fashion that would be slightly easier to follow? I do...- msk172

How many bright fringes are seen in the reflected light
Homework Statement Two optically flat plates of glass are separated at one end by a wire of diameter 0.210 mm; at the other end they touch. Thus, the air gap between the plates has a thickness ranging from 0 to 0.210 mm. The plates are 15.0 cm long and are illuminated from above with light of...- msk172

Calculating Minimum Width for 5 Interference Maxima
Follow up: Figured it out. Initially thought of the question as asking about 5 maxima per side (thus 10 total). One maxima in the center, two per side, 5 total. w * 4 yields correct value.- msk172

What is the minimum thickness that would minimize reflection of light
Pshh. My fault, actually. No clue how the word "minimize" somehow translated to "constructive" interference in my mind. Hah. Thanks so much for your help.- msk172
