Combustion Turbine Capacity Enhancement?
I have always had a fascination with trying to come up with new and unique, and (possibly) practical ways to increase the warm weather output capacity of combustion turbines. Any help or suggestions for possible options would be appreciated. In warm weather the density of the ambient air drops...- myperfectworld

YOU: Fix the US Energy Crisis
Last I heard, energy growth in some areas is flat, even though economy is growing. Add some storage technology improvement, and all of the sudden you can shift 1000's of MW or even GW from off peak to peak. If LEDs drop in price by 75% (3 years out?, 6 years? likely in between.)- probably...- myperfectworld

YOU: Fix the US Energy Crisis
,I was saying 40 - 50% penetration is possible in 1 - 2 decades. Not probable. However, in some regions this may be possible even sooner, Were you aware that Colorado area had 61% renewable energy penetration for over 1 hour a few months ago. May not seem like much to some, but to others...- myperfectworld

YOU: Fix the US Energy Crisis
I think you are too optimistic about the future of Fission - at least for the US. I don't think the political maturity will ever advance enough to make fission a viable contributor once the existing units have to be retired. I don't see a chance of new units other than the four under...- myperfectworld

Simplified Method of Combustion Turbine Supercharging
I am trying to find a simpler way to turbo charge the inlet. Is the concept used by an industrial air mover or a Dyson bladeless fan adaptable? A new company called Turbophase is turbo charging large industrial turbines using a gas engine driven compressor with intercooling &. recouperator...- myperfectworld

Simplified Method of Combustion Turbine Supercharging
When turbo charging has been looked at previously for large industrial combustion turbines, the concept would involve a very large fan to boost the inlet duct pressure by approximately 1 - 2 psig. Then, because all the combustion air has been heated by 10 or 20 degrees F, it must be cooled with...- myperfectworld

Simplified Method of Combustion Turbine Supercharging
Sorry, you are right, I didn't explain it well. The concept is pretty straight forward: A combustion turbine draws air in through filters and restrictive area of intake silencer baffles. At the restricted area of the baffles where air flow is approximately 60 fps through the duct, could...- myperfectworld

Recommended Forum for help with fluids problem / question?
Can someone suggest a way to answer a fluids question? More aero based than civil. I posted a thread over 8 weeks ago and I didn't get a single response or opinion despite hundreds of views. I don't believe I have the skills to derive the right answer - which is either yes or no - most likely...- myperfectworld

Do the number of blades in a propeller matter?
Yes, I believe it has a big influence. Most propellers are chosen based on numerous variables and the most efficient propeller is normally anywhere from 2 to 4 blades. Power, rpm, pitch, air density, maximum noise, maximum diameter, intent are all relevant? If you want greatest power...- myperfectworld

Wind Turbine with Generator & Gearbox on the Ground?
I agree, but believe the same design philosophy as existing machines could be used. A large nacelle on top of the tower with four synchronized yaw gear motors on a diameter of 10 to 15 feet ought to compensate against the counter torque of the vertical drive shaft. I thought the biggest issue...- myperfectworld

Wind Turbine with Generator & Gearbox on the Ground?
I have often wondered why conventional large wind turbines have evolved with their generators and gearboxes in the nacelle at the top of the tower where they are hard to reach and maintain. Despite this fact, I wish to believe that there may be benefits to a conventional horizontal shaft wind...- myperfectworld

YOU: Fix the US Energy Crisis
I don't understand your point completely, but still can tell I disagree with most of it! I agree we could be a net exporter in 5 years, but I believe it will be more like 10 - 15 years realistically. you say the price of oil and gas is being kept up? If you mean oil and gasoline, subsidies...- myperfectworld

YOU: Fix the US Energy Crisis
It absolutely is a political issue. However, for coal gasification with combined cycle power and a steam host VS carbon capture and sequestration, I believe there would be 100's or 1000's of more potential sites or projects than CCS - which better be near the sequestration site, or it is not...- myperfectworld
