Schools Preparing for University Math: Tips for Mastering Proofs

Hi everyone, I'm off to University to study Maths in September, I'm doing Further maths A level so I was wondering if there's anything you guys would suggest reading up on after my exams next month and before I go in September, thanks :)

    Any complicated maths problems?

Yeah I guess I messed the ant thing up lol. How would you start that one off?

    Any complicated maths problems?

Okay, I had no clue with this one so I scaled it down to 10 ants on a 1cm long stick all moving at 10 cm/s They were arranged like this: >>>>><<<<< and by my calculations it took 0.14 seconds for the stick to be completely empty. Assuming it works to scale then the 1m long stick should...

    Any complicated maths problems?

I understand the 1000x now. I've got x=32 I rearranged it to 0<x(x2-1000)<1000 As x had to be a 2 digit number, I tried x=10 and x=99 but both were far out of the acceptable range. I then used trial and error going up in multiples of 10 from 10->30 and got x=32 :) That method seemed...

    Any complicated maths problems?

Where did the 1000x bit dome from? Sorry, it's 2:30am, I'm really tired and my head isn't working properly lol.

    Any complicated maths problems?

Okay, I got the very first one with no mathematics at all lol, 12 and 9 were just the only logical answers that sprang to mind straight away. However, with the second one can you give me a hint as to how I should start it, I've written down: ABCDE=AB^3 Obviously that isn't an algebraically...

Why are some chemicals more reactive?

I can't give you a particularly in depth answer but I can tell you this. If an atom can get a full outer shell it becomes more stable. The positive electromagnetic force of the protons in tue nucleus is what draws electrons to an atom, however, the more rings of electrons you have around...

    Any complicated maths problems?

Hey, I'm an A-level maths student and I was wondering if anybody has any pretty complicated equations that can be solved using just the rules of indicies and general algebra. I ask because we're not really doing much in year 13 yet and I love a challenge when it comes to maths lol.

    Physics test-Projectile Motion shotputter

If we are assuming the shotputter's is not so short that his height is negligible then the time of flight would be twice the time to max height + the time to fall the remaining height to the ground. The only way I can think you would be able to solve this problem without knowing how high the...

Guidance needed about physics field and post-secondary education

I'm a 17 year old UK student currently studying Biologoy, Chemistry, Physics, Maths and Further Maths. I will be hopefully going to university in September 2012, however I'm not sure what I want to do as a career yet. I really enjoy maths and physics so I'm contemplating doing a degree in one...
