Something to be clarified about EM Wave: TE, TM and TEM
I have been reading different articles about EM wave modes, it is said that in TE waves the E_z is zero, similarly for TM H_z is zero, and TEM both E_z and H_z are zero. How about the E_x and E_y in TE wave? Someone said E_y is also zero and only E_x exists in TE...is this true? Is it...- NexusN

Need clarification on dot convention for magnetically couped circuits
I am not sure if I have understood the dot convention correctly, but my idea is based on the tendency of the inductor refusing to change the current(magnetic flux inside it to be more accurate). Take a look at this picture: At the very beginning when the switching is open(in OFF...- NexusN

The transformer section in Flyback converter
Thank you very much for the explanation,:-p I think this is a very important definition I must understand before I can go deeper in SMPS, I was struggled by the current definition in the past.- NexusN

The transformer section in Flyback converter
Homework Statement Hi everyone, I am now studying the Flyback converter as a component in a SMPS, my question is on the transformer unit on the converter. There are Primary side and Secondary side in the converter, at any given moment only either of the sides conducts, that is, when...- NexusN

Inductor sizing and it energy handling ability (SMPS related)
Thank you for your follow-up, with cross section area untouched, does it mean we can only decrease the inductance of the inductor by increasing the length, thus the size of the inductor to achieve what we want, and this is the reason the book concluded that the load current is proportional to...- NexusN

Inductor sizing and it energy handling ability (SMPS related)
Thank you for your replies, I have more ideas now if it is the case similar to the resistor formula, it looks the inductance of the inductor relates to the inductor size in a complicated way, I'd better learn more about how each factors affect the others before I can move on in the SMPS game...- NexusN

Inductor sizing and it energy handling ability (SMPS related)
Homework Statement I am struggled by a problem encountered in studying SMPS, on reading the book 'Switching Power Supply A-Z', for a passage talking about the effect of increase in load current of a DC-DC converter on the inductor size, from the ripple factor formula, r=(delta I)/I_L...- NexusN

A confusion in relationship of buck-boost converter
After some minutes and having read the changed described on the mentioned book, they are all the same, Vin increases --> Duty Cycle decreases, I think I've found the trick. I was wrong to use the Duty Cycle - Voltage formula, instead, I should apply the voltsecond law, Von-ton = Voff-toff, with...- NexusN

Understanding SMPS and Its Components: Key Switching, Inductors, and More
Thank you very much for your answers, it is so nice of you. I think I have to spend some time to understand and do a little search for them. I have been reading some materials and currently a book named "Switching Power Supply A to Z". It looks my understanding of SMPS is still very little...- NexusN

Research topic for an undergraduate regarding integrated optics
I will require to do some experiments if possible, what I am worrying is the equipment is not up to the standard for advanced work. Especially in this field, as far as I know, my college doesn't have much resources, so experiments would be limited and probably my focus will be on paper work...- NexusN

Understanding SMPS and Its Components: Key Switching, Inductors, and More
Hello everyone, I am here again to ask something, though maybe silly to be raised, to obtain a clearer picture of why exactly we are implementing the SMPS in the way we are doing. Let me list them to save your time in reading: Don't bother to answer them all, it would be my honor to have...- NexusN
