High School Is P a Necessary and Sufficient Cause of Q?
Hey All, I've just started reading a discrete math book, and in the beginning the book covers logic. One concept I'm finding hard to understand is certain conditional propositions. When the example uses a word problem, I mostly get it. The statement is "If The Mathematics Department...- nickto21

High School Where can I find videos on power series and other calculus topics?
Hey All, I'm learning calculus through videos. The videos that I'm watching are really good, but they are deficient in power series, taylor and mclaurin series, binomial series, and taylor polynomial applications. Anyone know where I can see video instruction for these? Steve -

Which Software Helps Math Majors Learn Step-by-Step?
Hey All, Is there a software package that shows a step by step how it solved a problem? I've looked into Maple, and I think that Maple does this, but not sure. I'm looking for software that will help me learn calculus, analysis, linear and abstract algebra. Also, does anyone know about...- nickto21

Undergrad Solve Logarithmic Equation: log9 (p) = log12 (q) = log16 (p+q)
What the heck is a+1=1/a? I can't get an answer. I get to (a squared + a)=1, then I'm stuck. Steve- nickto21

High School Placement Assessment Help: Quiz Prep for Next Year's School Class Selection
tyrizzle, Don't worry about starting low. You have 4 years. Taking a couple of remedial math courses is no big deal. In a year, you'll be taking Calculus, so don't worry about it. Steve- nickto21

High School Learn Proofs: Best Websites & Books for Beginners
Hey All, I'm starting to learn proofs. Is there a good website that starts with the simplest proofs, and goes from there? I've googled this, but thought maybe some of you may know something that isn't easily found. I can also get books from Ohio State, so maybe some book suggestions...- nickto21

High School Proof that (-a)(-b)=ab: Is It Logical?
Thanks for the reply. I"ll check on what you suggested. BTW, Is there a software program that makes posting math symbols easier? Maybe a graphics program where I can just post an image? Thanks, Steve- nickto21

High School Proof that (-a)(-b)=ab: Is It Logical?
Hey All, I found this proof on the internet, but its logic seems flawed. Let x = (-a)(-b) =(-1 * a)(-1 * b) =-1 * a * -1 * b =-1 * -1 * a * b =(-1 * -1)(a * b) = ab So it's saying that (-a)(-b) = ab. This doesn't seem like a logical proof, or at...- nickto21

Undergrad Where to sit in a theatre bonus problem
Hello all, I'm in Calculus 2, and I was given a problem for bonus points, which I desperately need. It has to do with the best place to sit in a movie theatre. The problem is long, and has a diagram, so I've attached an image of the problem to this post. I have no real clue where to... -

I am interested in disinterested knowledge
I'm not sure if this is what Disinterested knowledge means, but it makes me think of knowledge that no one is interested in. If that's the case, you can't ever be interested in it. Once interested, it ceases to be "Disinterested knowledge". So, does it even exist? Lol. Steve- nickto21

Can Anyone Help Prove My Existence?
I think it would be funny if you wrote your name on a piece of paper, and just handed that in. "I have a name, I exist" type of thing. And, I don't think that you can "prove" that you exist. The thing that I hate about these classes is that even though there are no real answers to these...- nickto21

Undergrad What is the true nature of time and its relationship to space?
Compuchip, Thanks for the reply. You're right about my confusion about understanding dimensions. I'm going to ask one of my teachers to explain dimensions to me on a blackboard. Is this a problem that I should ask a physics teacher to explain, or a math teacher? Is there a point in math...- nickto21
