Can Magnetic Hoops Create a Space Elevator to Geo Orbit?
Would it be possible to have a stack of thin magnetic hoops that, when energized, space out from each other to reach geo orbiit Kinda like a magnetic slinky?- OSalcido

Graduate Dark matter solution: not receiving all the light?
Are you people/"contributors" really this dense? He's asking if we are not actually seeing the entire non-dark matter galaxy i.e. is dark matter just regular matter that is obstructed from view. I really want to know why you guys love to be so damn condescending.- OSalcido

Graduate Can We Pull a Metal Ball Out of a Black Hole With a Steel Cable?
I can kinda understand what the OP was asking. I think. But you have to understand, when you start going into hypothetical situations that current theories say are impossible, you can't return back to those theories for the answers. You'd wind up with matter flying back in time, negative mass...- OSalcido

Segmentation fault reading string on cin read
Homework Statement I'm trying to read a string from cin. When it hits the "cin >> strWord" statement, I get the following error message: Segementation fault (core dumped). The input file is named "data4nine". I'm really not sure what a segmentation fault is and why I'm getting it The...- OSalcido

Water Found on Mars: Now to Melt It
Care to explain how they are dissimilar? Same story, different characters. A few gomers trying to tackle scientific development with their own version of morality. And yes, there are multiple versions of morality. You saying some undeveloped microorganisms should not be wiped away by a more...- OSalcido

Water Found on Mars: Now to Melt It
I've never seen so many pessimists and naysayers in one thread. People already finding more excuses for not furthering our knowledge of space... Mars belonging to microbes? Have you ever heard of survival of the fittest? Don't get me wrong, this new age liberal babble about who owns what...- OSalcido

Mars - this is how it went down. (just for fun/argument sake)
Im no physicist but I think that it is unlikely that all the planets are at just the right angular velocity and mass to keep them in an unchanging orbit Also, isn't gravity a force? All that energy swinging planets around has got to come from somewhere- OSalcido

Graduate Tugging on a Chain: Earth-Moon Connection Explored
Imagine a solid chain from the Earth to the moon's surface (which I believe is 1.5 light seconds away). Now Imagine two scenarios. First scenario is that the chain is attached directly to the moon's surface. Second scenario is the chain is unattached. What happens if I tug on the chain in both...- OSalcido
