Dropping Math Mayor for Grad School - Advice for German Physics Student

I'd say, get your Vordiplom in Math and leave it at that. I've never applied to the US, but I think you'd be better advised to get some research experience under your belt, than study something you're not interested in.

Hi, I'm physarrista. I quit med-school to pursue my interest in physics, much to the horror of the rest of my family.

Is Research Aptitude Innate or Can It Be Developed?

The beginning was a desaster but with each lab internship I got a bit better at doing research. I certainly learned patience and attention to detail watching those damn crystals grow.

    Economic (Mis)Education in Europe

Russ, as someone who grew up in a communist/ socialist country and has since lived in several european countries, including France and in the US, I have to tell you, your assesment of the 'socialist' aspect of the french economy seems just... weird. France and the Soviet Union are as...

Highest Scoring Entry for 2007 Physics World Quiz Contest?

yep, good point. I found http://physicsworld.com/cws/article/print/31258" article on physicsworld, which is probably the article they are referring to. Both of the guys are mentioned. I still think it's Groettrup, although that "lone" throws me a bit off. Maybe submit two versions of...

Highest Scoring Entry for 2007 Physics World Quiz Contest?

Oh, in that case I'd place my bet at that Helmut Groettrup type. I found another article, that named him as "the soviets biggest catch", but then I quickly lost the link again.

Do All Cells and Microorganisms Meet the Criteria of Life?

Yeah. Some googling revealed, there seems to be some kind of debate out there about the criteria anyways. I remember learning "movement" as an attribute of life in high school biology class. This seems to have been taken off the list, since.

Do All Cells and Microorganisms Meet the Criteria of Life?

Do all cells and microorganisms fulfill the criteria of life? Homeostasis Organisation Metabolism Growth Adaption Response to Stimuli Reproduction I'm asking, because I know that there are animal species which don't fulfill all those criteria (I know a mule can't reproduce) and I was...

Research for undergraduates during the summer?

I always just emailed the professors of the labs I was interested in. Attach a CV and a reference contact (if you have any). This works in the hole EU area, too.

Studying Study EE in Malaysia - Under $12K/yr, Aug 2008

Tuition has been introduced slowly during the past two years or so. It's now up to a few hundred euros per semester at certain places. My university is still free, luckily. Problem is, you need to pass a German test to get accepted and an average high school diploma won't be automatically...

PF PHOTO CONTEST - Bad Picture 2 (10/1-10-7)

Not sure if a friend sticking his tongue into my beautiful picture of a Cathedral in order to annoy me qualifies as a technical mistake, but I think the result is pretty hilarious.

What did you want to be when you grew up?

Doctor - up until I got into medschool. Then I quit and went into physics instead - much to the horror of my parents.
