Programs Chances of Theoretical Physics PhD?
I have done the QFFF course at Imperial. The course is very specific, its made so that you can do the algebra of quantum field theory and standard model, purposely made to suit the interest of the department : String theory. I went in and I found very little overlap between the stuffs they do...- presario

Schools Graduate University for de Broglie-Bohm Theory Research
I am working on de Broglie-Bohm theory for a summer. The trouble with foundation of quantum mechanics is, a lot of it has been philosophical debate and not much of experimental predictions. People usually take the attitude that "quantum mechanics work but there are something I don't like but...- presario

Schools Best UK Universities to Consider for Your Upcoming Applications
Hi all, If you are looking to be on the top of the world, I would highly suggest to go to United States for simple reason, they have much more money. The UK traditionally have had very good (but old fashion) physics department, I am my self at Imperial College in the theoretical department...- presario

Schools Apply for UK or US graduate schools?
I am in the UK, Don't come here, go to US or perhaps China, UK has recently had its funding budget slashed again thanks to bailing out banks. There are no industries here other than banking Absolutely nearly zero scholarship for foreign student Well, with all that conditions, not...- presario

Graduate How does a photon carry force?
Yes, that is the whole point, with QED picture there is no "action at a distance" since I said that force is change in momentum, anything that carries momentum can exert a force by passing on the momentum. Every photon can only be specified by its momentum and its polarization- presario

How to Really Understand Physics - An Undergrad's Perspective
You see, understanding is difficult, understanding takes time and patience, a lot of time and patience. Most people are scheduled so tightly that they are overwhelmed with work and got other things in life that time to sit and think seems hard to afford. Keep trying though, why not try...- presario

HELP ME, trapped in Aristotelian conception but must learn quantum physics
The thing is, Mr Feynman understood his maths very well, that's why he was confident enough to extract all the physical information out of it. There really is no right or wrong path in physics, its a matter of taste, people have different style, and each particular style would tackle different...- presario

Courses How do you deal with upper undergrad level courses?
1. I am on Master program 2. Study spot, yes, a place favourable to studies, anywhere that you feel comfortable enough to study without too much distractions but at the same time not too comfortable that you fall asleep, this could be a quiet cafe or some spot in library or at home. Years...- presario

Courses How do you deal with upper undergrad level courses?
Hi there I know exactly what you mean, I study in the UK and got my BSc in Physics, EMT and GR was quite tough for me but I ended up doing okay because I liked found the maths for them quite aesthetically pleasing. However, coming onto graduate level course (on my arbitrary scale...- presario

Need Advice on Unorthodox Approach to Physics Education
its tough... you can say that university is place for self study under some guidance and yes, the amount of work require to do proper physics is ridiculous, you really need a real degree or you need to be incredibly disciplined (to get a degree you need some level of disciplinary anyway) I...- presario
