Graduate Horn Antenna Radio Interferometer
If anyone is interested, it works exceptionally well. Interference fringes are observed, and when sweeping the southern horizon, a pattern that is significantly similar to that obtained with a standard parabolic reflective dish is observed.- rattis

Graduate Horn Antenna Radio Interferometer
Got this setup and it actually works! One can see some excellent fringes when a person walks past it, and there's certainly some stuff going on when a sweep of the sky is made. can anyone give me an equation relating the intensity of the em radiation detected and the size/angle of the horns...- rattis

Graduate Horn Antenna Radio Interferometer
This is a strange experiment (or not so compared to some of the experiments I've done) that I am currently undertaking, and require your help. I have built an interferometer of sorts. Two metal funnels of diameter 200mm are attached together by copper tubing (20mm?) through a Y junction with...- rattis

Measuring waterwheel efficiency
Thanks a lot. Initially i am using a model and the water is flowing down a 'slide' coming from the tap. As the model is not very good the water sprays all over the place, so energy entering and leaving the system is hard to find- rattis

Measuring waterwheel efficiency
How did British engineer John Smeaton measure the efficiency of an overshot waterwheel? I am doing an experiment with overshot waterwheels to find their efficiency, and found that John Smeaton measured their efficiency at about 65%. However I have no idea how he got this number, and I cannot...- rattis

Undergrad Torricelli's Theorem: Flow Rate from Containers
Apparently Torichelli made a therom that has something to do with flow rate out of containers. Can anyone help me with this as i am doing the same experiment using differential equations.- rattis

Why is the Irish Lottery considered to have better odds than other lotteries?
My friend came up with a good idea. He said that intead of paying £1 a week for a ticket, save up the money and pay £52 on 52 tickets all in one week. Or you could just keep the £52 as your winnings.- rattis

Coursework Ideas: Researching, Experiments, Predictions & Variations
Im at UK college, studying A2 Physics(Salters Horners). I get from now until Febuary to research and prepare, then i have 2 weeks to experiment and a further 2 weeks to write the documentation. The experiment will get a slight grading, but the main marks are for the documentation and physics...- rattis

Coursework Ideas: Researching, Experiments, Predictions & Variations
I am currently researching ideas for my final year coursework. I can do any experiment I like, as long as it is done at the lab, with the equipment that the lab has. I can buy/make equipment if I fund it myself. The trouble with this is that I don't know what experiment to do as the choice is...- rattis

High School A-Level Physics: Explaining Resistance to a 15-Year-Old
I am currently finishing my first year of an A-level in physics. (Previous posters have outlined the course content well.) I have also taken Computing, Maths and Further Maths this year. Next year I will take A2 Physics, A2maths and A2 further maths, and AS electronics. I would recommend that...- rattis
