Relative Velocity Airplane Problem - Air and Ground speed
Homework Statement A jet flies with an airspeed of 310 mph due east (assuming +x is due east). It is climbing vertically with a velocity of 50 mph. A wind blowing toward northeast has a speed of 55 mph. Homework Equations Find the x,y,z components of the plane's velocity relative to...- Rock32

General Energy conservation question
This isn't really a homework question, so I'm hoping I can just get a straight answer from someone (although it is related to questions). I realize that you can choose U = 0 anywhere you want in a gravity-related problem, ideally choosing a place where it is easiest to manipulate mgy values...- Rock32

Forces on an inclined plane, kinetic friction How is this wrong?
Yes, sorry for not clarifying. The (a) inside the trig functions stood for the angle (30), and a1/a2 were the acelerations.- Rock32

Forces on an inclined plane, kinetic friction How is this wrong?
I would personally advise keeping the equations in the form of algebraic variables (m1/m2/g/a/T), then solving for the variables. When you get to more complicated problems, doing all of the necessary algebra before plugging in numbers makes it easier not to make mistakes. You're rushing...- Rock32

Calc II integration by trig sub
Homework Statement Find the integral from 31/2 to 3 of 1/(x) ((x2 +9))1/2 I tried to substitute x= 3tanu, and I get down eventually to a solution that is (sec(pi/4) - sec(pi/6)) I realize integrals can have many forms, but the form in the back of my book isn't even close to...- Rock32

Programs Major Career Options: CHEM, CHEM ENGR, MATH, PHYS
Right now, I'm torn between 4 majors, 2 of which are fairly similar (chem and chem engineering). My main questions is out of those 4, which one do you think will offer the best career options with just a B.S. Right now I'm not planning on a masters or PhD program. A few things about me...- Rock32

What Does the Area Under a Position vs. Time Graph Represent?
This isn't really a homework problem, but I wasn't sure where else to ask this. The area under (integral) a velocity vs. time graph is total displacement, or if it is absolute value'd, total distance traveled. So then, what does the area under a position vs. time graph signify, if anything...- Rock32

Programs University of Arizona Major Suggestions for Science Lover
I've tried that, in a way, for years. A few months ago a started reading a textbook called Basic Electricty & Electronics. I got about 200 pages through it before I just kind of forgot about it. I picked up another book, Cosmos by Carl Sagan, which interested me greatly. That is, until I got...- Rock32

Programs University of Arizona Major Suggestions for Science Lover
I'm starting school at the University of Arizona soon, and I am very torn on which major to choose. I realize that most people change their major 2-3 times by the time they graduate, but any suggestions would be great! Here is a little bit about me: Throughout high school, I excelled in my...- Rock32
