Calculating Volume and Side Length of a Cut Cone - Is This Right
This is a problem I had in a test and almost everyone got different answers for it, we discussed and well, I spotted mistakes in their solutions so I think mine is right but I wanted to check here and also ask if there is an easier/faster way to do it. There is a container that is similar to...- Ryoukomaru

Graduate Is There a Connection Between Gravity and the Casimir Effect?
Casimir effect is always attractive. :/ Also, how can it be used to neutralize gravity. :/ It is a symmterical force, acting in both directions and it can't be limited to one direction. P.S. Gravity might have an effect on strength of the casimir effect since it alters the wavelength of...- Ryoukomaru

High School The Famous Runner and the Tortoise Puzzle
The runner is achilles  It was a paradox that baffled Archimedeans(sp?) for centuries. They couldn't solve the problem because they didnt know limits. :-p- Ryoukomaru

High School How fast can lightning change direction?
OHh I also wonder why lightning doesn't propagate in a straight line ... but in a zigzag type of path. Is it because it chooses the path that is least resistive ?- Ryoukomaru

High School Can Bones Glow When Heated? Exploring Bone Luminescence Science
The reaction doesn't have to be combustion. If you do it an oxygen free environment then it will be something different. But heat will induce changes in the chemical structure of the bone, long before it starts glowing.- Ryoukomaru

Undergrad How Can We Determine the Value of p to Make Three Vectors Coplanar?
I don't have the question with me so I ll just describe it to you. It was a test question. I was given 3 vectors \vec u, \vec v, \vec w and \vec w had an unknown parameter p in it. We were supposed to calculate a value for p such that the three vectors are coplanar. What I did was...- Ryoukomaru

Removing Malicious Adware Files Safely from System32
I don't know if Norton gives you the name and location of the infected files since i don't use it because it is crap, you can always do a search on google with those files names and find out if there are system files. Then you can safely delete them.- Ryoukomaru

Excuse me but i m not wasting any time here because I don't have "time" to waste. I have been busy having exams for the last few weeks and even if I wanted I wouldn't be able to start a book. I would appreciate it if you didnt jump to conclusions without having sufficient knowledge about the...- Ryoukomaru

Undergrad What are some good math books for beginners?
Well, I recently learned that my cousin who graduated several years ago has Tom Apostols books ( Vol 1+2). Do you think it is wise to start with them ? Should I first start with so called "cookbooks" ? I am in 12th grade right now and I am thinking Aposol might be a little hard without a...- Ryoukomaru

Separate sand, salt, water through whatever means necessary
Hmm how about first heat the mixture so salt will dissolve but sand will not then filter the sand out. Then cool the water near 0, which decreases the solubility of salt in water. Then you can filter the salt too.- Ryoukomaru
