Ronja - D.I.Y. wireless communications
Ronja On their website, they provide plans for a few different models of a wireless network device. The plans include parts list, instructions, pictures/diagrams etc., and are licensed under the GNU Free Documentaton License. Limitations of the device are that it requires a direct...- SamLuc

Is There a Linux Version of Photoshop?
The GIMP's functionality can be extended via plugins: http://registry.gimp.org/ There are lots of other options as well: try http://linuxartist.org/ for more info. A lot of the packages listed there probably have binaries available for RedHat as well.- SamLuc

Graduate The mind's 'projection' & the position observable:
Yeah, I'd searched for info on Von Neumann's views on the observer-quantum system relationship before, but, as you said, descriptions of most of his work is bound to be very mathematical. I'll try again though. I was, in one way, shooting myself in the foot by using cortical stimulation as an...- SamLuc

Graduate The mind's 'projection' & the position observable:
Thanks for the taking the time to explain Alex; much obliged. You're right: I will have to read this (and other explanations) a number of times before I grasp it. As for my proposition above, well, I mentioned it partly in the hope that it has been suggested by others (who are far more qualified...- SamLuc

Graduate The mind's 'projection' & the position observable:
The Law of Projection: "No matter where a particular sensory pathway is stimulated along its course to the cortex, the conscious sensation produced is referred to the location of the receptor." ('Review of Medical Physiology', 6th Edition, W.F. Ganong, p. 63) OK, the term 'projection' might...- SamLuc

Where a neurobiologist can get a job?
I'm not sure Thallium, but I've heard from some sources that they remove people's brains, probe them with funny-looking objects, and then eat them after several days of arcane ritual. Other sources tell me they study phenomena related to the nervous system - such as emotion, behaviour...- SamLuc

Humanure and the Human Nutrient Cycle
Yeah, skywise, I live in a seaside town, and the water close to our shore has become so badly-polluted that I no longer swim in it. I checked out that link Dissident Dan - some of the pictures are absolutely disgusting. Animal waste is obviously a venerable, although separate, issue.- SamLuc

Humanure and the Human Nutrient Cycle
Hi Moonbear. I've just read one of the relevant sections of Joe Jenkin's book. It's a section entitled 'FECOPHOBIA AND THE PATHOGEN ISSUE' - which you can read http://www.weblife.org/humanure/chapter6_2.html . He makes two points/claims: (i) "most pathogens only have a limited viability outside...- SamLuc

Humanure and the Human Nutrient Cycle
Here is a relevant quote on waste deposition in soil: "Chemical pollution is the diversion of chemical elements from the natural biogeochemical cycles. The carbon, nitrogen, and phosphate in municipal wastes released to streams and lakes are removed from the plant-soil cycle, which is the...- SamLuc

Humanure and the Human Nutrient Cycle
The notion of using human waste for "manure" aside, as far as I know, soil - as opposed to water - is the safest, and most appropriate, medium in which to despose of human waste. So, even if you don't use it for manure soil is still the best place to put waste. I can post some salient quotes...- SamLuc

Humanure and the Human Nutrient Cycle
Very worthy topic to raise IMO skywise. I haven't actually read Joseph Jenkins book, but I had heard about it. I'm starting to make those sort of changes in my own lifestyle at the mo - I want to set up a composting space in the garden etc.. I'd like to post more on this topic once I'm read more...- SamLuc
