Comparing Stress in Pipes with High Pressure Fluid Inside and Outside
Two situations: * A pipe with high pressure fluid inside - stress determined by hoop stress. * A pipe with high pressure fluid outside Suppose the pressure differences are the same in each situation, which would have less stress? Or are they equal? My first thoughts are that if the...- sc298

Joule's Mechanical Equivalent of Heat
As I understand it, J's MEoH is the calorific value of a substance. The standard value for this constant is given for raising 1 lb or kg of water by 1 degree. I am using equations which use J's MEoH but with other substances. The equations come from a book on steam turbines so they no doubt...- sc298

Pressure due to boiling a liquid
I am looking for an equation to determine the pressure produced by boiling a liquid. (On the net I can only find information on the effect that pressure has on boiling point) for example, the pressure produced by heating liquid nitrogen to 0K. Any help would be great! Thank you- sc298

How Much Torque Is Required to Start a Motor Used as a Generator?
Hi everyone, I'm new here. I'm taking electronics engineering at exeter uni and I can't find an equation for my current project. Its to do with max efficiency from a Pelton wheel. I need to know how much torque it will take to turn a motor (used as a generator) from stationary (zero...- sc298
