What's the difference between short term memory and working memory?
Yes, STM and WM are often used interchangeably. I'd further like to add that WM processes both STM and LTM.- Solcielo L

What is the effectiveness of a lecture-based teaching format?
If a statement is made, and a clarification/classification question is asked, then the statement was not clear. The question is a direct response for the need to clarify/classify. Instructors nearly never practice what they are going to say. They don't spend the time (out of the classroom)...- Solcielo L

How global exchange rates are determined
I thought currency was traded on the global market so that's how exchange rates are set. It doesn't make sense to me that you'd trade money to make money.- Solcielo L

Why is there no fix for Male Pattern Baldness?
I started losing my hair, receding and thinning in my mid 20's. And while I did distress over it, and still do occasionally, I've learned how to cut and style my hair so that it isn't as noticeable. Until I tilt my head down. In which case, I'm exposed and naked and I feel incredibly...- Solcielo L

What is the effectiveness of a lecture-based teaching format?
Questions fall under two main categories: 1) clarification/classification (i.e. What did you say? What is that?) 2) comparison of knowledge (i.e. I heard that...? Isn't it true that...? What do you think about...?) Any question that can be asked will fall into one of these two categories...- Solcielo L

How Likely For Trait to be Preserved Across Large Population?
You are basically asking if genes will diffuse into the larger population, correct? Your question is a funny one because you're asking something most people would never bother to ask once they've understood Mendelian genetics. I don't think this is the answer you are looking for: inbreeding...- Solcielo L

Can You Truly Multitask?
That sounds like note-taking in a college course. I wouldn't consider that multitasking since it's essentially the same task, just different parts of the task. It's like reading and saying aloud what you're reading while turning the pages. When I think of multitasking, I think different...- Solcielo L

How do real mathematicians learn enough
Most math courses are taught that math is something you do, such as solving problems. But math isn't just about that. It's a way of thinking, and this isn't normally taught. Mathematicians talk about it as a language. Only those who understand that language can use it to communicate. And I...- Solcielo L

Can You Truly Multitask?
According to brain scans in an MRI, to answer the question of how the brain multitasks, the results indicate that multitasking is simply switching from one task to another. At no point does the brain split it's processes to deal with two tasks simultaneously. Conclusion: multitasking is a...- Solcielo L

What field of psychology should I read?
Cognitive psychology deals with how the mind works including learning, memory, intelligence, emotions, etc. However, if by complexes you mean mental disorders, like schizophrenia, OCD, ADD, PTSD, then it's abnormal psychology. I can't recommend any textbooks as I studied it through reading...- Solcielo L

A stab wound from a single edged weapon. How to identify?
It appears to have been created with a small single edge knife. The puncture doesn't look very deep. Some adipose tissue appears to be visible.- Solcielo L

Why do water changes cause plants to grow faster?
If microorganisms are present, then the water should become turbid as they multiply. However, this is not necessarily the case. Fertilization is done on a regular basis, daily or 2-3x a week. The nutrients are NPK and maybe micros (which include Fe, Mg, Mn, B, Cu, Zn, and Mo.) UV...- Solcielo L

Anyone who's interested in linguistics?
This is info about Chomsky and his language Acquisition Device http://www.chomsky.info/bios/2001----02.htm Chomsky came up with LAD, an innate linguistic structure in the brain, based on observations that children universally pick up on language without formal instruction. This contradicted the...- Solcielo L

Why do water changes cause plants to grow faster?
We are dosing the water column as part of our regular fertilizing regimen. We add macro and micronutrients (which are low to nonexistent to begin with) to tap or reverse osmosis water. Plants will still grow much faster if we perform frequent water changes. So it's not an issue of...- Solcielo L

Why do water changes cause plants to grow faster?
Any plants. It's not a homework question because there is no literature as to why this occurs so it's highly improbable anyone can cite a source. I'm looking to see if any botanist/biologists who have knowledge of this can provide an answer. Is is something about fresh water?- Solcielo L
