Question about a sheet of charge

Today my prof said that for a point charge the force is proportional to 1/r^2. For a line charge it is proportional to 1/r. For a sheet charge it is a constant and for a volume it is proportional to r. He also did some derivations but I don't see how this can be. For example for a sheet charge...

oh yeah. i see the problem. thank you.

    Question of electricity net force

if the pic isn't clear enough, here is a close up. oh i fixed that. F_{q3q1} should be 1.35x10^-4. The answer though is sitll wrong. I subtract the two forces because one pair is attractive while the other force is repulsive. The answer I get is 5.625x10^-5. The answer from homework grader...

    Question of electricity net force

Homework Statement Three point charges are located on the positive x-axis of a coordinate system. Charge q1 = 1.0 nC is 2.0 cm from the origin, charge q2 = -3.5 nC is 4.0 cm from the origin and charge q3 = 6.0 nC located at the origin. What is the net force ((a)magnitude and (b) direction) on...

How Much Louder Are Four Crying Quadruplets Compared to One?

ok, so were basically saying it averages out to twice the intensity right?

How Much Louder Are Four Crying Quadruplets Compared to One?

do you mind explaining by what you mean when you say "the sound intensity in this problem is not coherent"?. thank you.

How Much Louder Are Four Crying Quadruplets Compared to One?

what? if you add 2 signals, i thought you get 4 times the intensity... If that's the case, why is it that in a double slit, the central max is 4 times as a single light ray? We also do this using phasor diagrams. Where each additional source of light (or this case sound) represents adding a...

How Much Louder Are Four Crying Quadruplets Compared to One?

Homework Statement When four quadruplets cry simultaneously, how many decibels greater is the sound intensity level than when a single one cries? Homework Equations B=10*log(I/I_0) The Attempt at a Solution [/B] I_0 is arbitrary (its just a reference). When 4 babies cry, I would assume that...

How can heat change if temp is constant?

In my textbook it says an isothermal process occurs when the temperature is constant. It also said taht typically, Q,W, and delta U are not 0 in these processes. My question is how can heat not be 0 if temperature is constant? Q=mcDeltaT so if Delta T is 0, then Q also has to be 0 right?

    Questions of single slit diffraction

Homework Statement I have a question on a practice midterm my professor sent out. I would ideally ask him, but I won't see him until itake my midterm. Instead I am attaching the question and solutions at attachments. THe question of interest is in the attachment "physics question" and the...

    Stuck in wave interference question

Homework Statement Light of 576 nm wavelength is directed at a two-slit apparatus and produces a famous intensity pattern on a screen 75.0 cm away. Each slit is 0.434 mm wide, and the center-to-center separation of the slits is 0.640 mm. Given that the intensity at the very center of the...
