Can someone help me understand what this problem is asking?
Thank you very much for the clarification. I'm guessing however that I must have missed something as I've never seen something of the form \begin{pmatrix}n-1\\2\end{pmatrix} before. What exactly does this mean?- TrolliOlli

Spring System in Harmonic Motion. How do I find
Ahh, I think I see my problem. It's because I forgot to subtract the weight of the larger mass from the force that the spring is exerting on the system. Although when I try doing: 4N - 9.81*.24 + 9.81*.5 I get that the spring will have a force of 6.55 N when the 4N of tension is on the tape...- TrolliOlli

Spring System in Harmonic Motion. How do I find
Homework Statement A .5kg mass is suspended from a spring. A student attaches a second mass, .24kg, to the bottom of the first mass using tape (neglect the mass of the tape and spring). The spring extends an aditional 2cm when the second mass is attached. a) Find the period of the...- TrolliOlli

Electric potential inside a spherical shell
Say we have a spherical shell of outer radius b and inner radius a. The shell has a total charge +3q and at it's center is a point charge of charge -q. I know that the E field for r>b would simply be: E = (3q-q)/(4πr^2ε0) and thus the electric potential inside the shell must be the same as the...- TrolliOlli

What Determines the Time Constant for an Inductor in Different Switch Positions?
The original question: Notice that they have marked that the correct time constant is T = 2L/R Why is this the correct answer and not L/R? I thought the inductor will only take into consideration one Resistor as in both circuits (switch closed vs open), current will only flow through...- TrolliOlli

Undergrad Voltage across resistors in series and parallel
Would that also apply to two resistors in series? If I simply had a battery with two resistors in series would their voltage be equal regardless of whether or not their resistors were equal?- TrolliOlli

Undergrad Voltage across resistors in series and parallel
So I must be missing some crucial knowledge in my knowledge of electrostatics because I simply don't understand how this works. I'm given a circuit like this: [PLAIN]http://img3.imageshack.us/img3/8730/circuiti.png and I find out the voltage across bulb B is the same as that across the 10...- TrolliOlli

Calculating Capacitance for Pulsed Nitrogen Laser Design: Tips and Tricks
Homework Statement You are part of an engineering research team that is designing a pulsed nitrogen laser. To create the high energy densities needed to operate such a laser, the electrical discharge from a high-voltage capacitor is used. Typically, the energy requirement per pulse (i.e., per...- TrolliOlli

Solving an Electric Field Due to an Infinite Cylinder
I know but I tried finding Q as I showed above, by taking ρ = 200nC/m^3 and multiplying it by the volume (4/3 pi (.04)^3) to get Q = 5.36E-11 I then use Gauss's law: E(4pi(.08)^2) = 5.36E-11/ε0 this however gives me E = 75.306 What am I doing wrong?- TrolliOlli
